Search warrant?

There was some sort of disturbance last night in the east end, and a police dog traced the suspect back to our place last night. So at 1:30 AM we had 10 officers in our apartment, they essentially walked right in, and searched our apartment without asking for permission.
Now I had no reason to say no, but we had private things all over the place, no chance to clean up, etc. I think this is a pretty big invasion of privacy. Do police have the right to do things like this?? Do they need a warrant?? What actions should I take, if any?
