Ever want to own a bus (or other city vehicle)?

This came across my inbox this afternoon...
The city is giving people a bit of a different way to buy a used vehicle. Through a sealed tender process, you can put in your bid for one of 29 surplus city vehicles that include dump trucks, a bus and other speciality vehicles. Of course for your average person with an average vehicle appetite, there are cars and trucks including an 04 Dodge Ram, 03 Chevy Silverado, 01 Jeep TJ and 06 Dodge Charger.
The bidding window is quite short, with the deadline being Dec 17. To get more info on specific vehicles, it looks like you have to request info by filling out a small form at

Has anyone been involved in anything like this before to know what kind of deals might realistically be had?
