Doing the right thing

With a personal experience and then reading the thread about the accident on 6th and College it has me wondering if people just don't do the 'right thing' anymore. I know that this could easily become a controversial conversation into what people view the right thing.
The personal experience I had was being witness to a 3 vehicle accident. We saw the accident first hand and my husband was the one to call 911. I have been first aid trained renewing every 3 years for a long time, and was ready to help anyone requiring assistance until EMS could get there. My husband and I were on our way to a Wheat Kings game when we viewed the accident. We stayed on scene, back out of the way until the police could come and get our names etc and a statement of what we had seen. We were able to slip into our seats before the drop of the puck to start the game. Between the periods the people around us were commenting on us being late (is very unusual for us). We told our story as to why we were late and for the most part nearly everyone was shocked that we would stick around to give a statement. These people were of a variety of ages. Do people just not do that anymore? Do people really not want to get involved to help others?
