Cross-Canada Cycle for Mental Health
7/31/2010 at 6:23 PM
Your support of Wayne McGuinness Cross-Canada Cycle for Mental Health Awareness will help to ensure that the Canadian Mental Health Association and other community mental health programs to continue to provide a high level of support to persons with serious mental illness and their families. Mr. McGuinness is no stranger to long distance riding, raising over $14,000 for the Juravanski Cancer Clinic in Hamilton and over $5200 for the Princess Margaret Hospital's Ride to Conquer Cancer, following the death of his wife to ovarian cancer.
Wayne and his late wife's son, Shawn, has been living with mental health challenges and learning disabilities for most of his life. Mental illness is more common than we are led to believe. Statistics show that one in five Canadians will have a mental health problem at one time in their lives. Mental illnesses account for a large percentage of hospital stays every year. Yet, in spite of the fact that every Canadian knows someone who has been, or will be, affected by mental illness, few people know very much about it. Wayne has made a commitment to change that, and raise an awareness of mental illness and its associated stigma. His ride will begin on July 1, 2010 and end August 9, 2010.
Charitable tax receipts will be issued by agencies once donations are received.
