Milk gone bad....old wives' tale?
8/1/2010 at 5:55 PM
With three children, I buy a lot of milk: we usually go through a 4L jug every 2 days. This summer I've been noticing that frequently, it starts going sour long before the expiry date.
Because I'm quick to get the groceries home and refrigerated, I was chalking the sour milk up to poor refridgeration in the stores, or perhaps the truck that delivered it had problems, or even perhaps the store didn't throw it in the fridge quickly enough after having it delivered.
I mentioned all this to a friend, and she said she'd heard an old wives' tale about milk curdling when there are lots of thunderstorms. Barometric pressure, perhaps? Who knows. But the way the weather has been this year, and the amount of times our milk has quickly soured (bought from different stores, I might add) I'm thinking this old wives' tale might have some merit after all.
