train shunting and timing- rant
8/3/2010 at 8:46 PM
Ok yes I will rant here which really does not accomplish squat but I will also fire off a Email to CN. So Today shortly after 12 noon I was heading south on 6th towards Victoria. Just before I hit the intersection I saw the train blocking sixth but rolling west. Good I will head east down Vic To 1st street and onwards South. I figured by that time I hit 1st the tracks on 1stt would be cleared or close to it. Wow was I wrong. Traffic was backed up til Vic but I was able to turn ( last car in line). No Biggie I figured. The train would soon pass. Wrong again. In fact it was now heading east. They were shunting the cars I figure but why at a peak traffic time?? Yes it only a 10 minute( it was a long one) tie up but someone has to a have clue on that train.
Yes I know the trains came first Brandon grew around them blah blah blah. It is just someone at CN both here in Brandon and out east knows its a lightly used train yard and out of a 24 hours day that is available to shunt they can work around peak periods for the few trains they have to assemble in that rail yard.
Hehe maybe they should have a 1-800 number on each rail car with the Engineers phone number. Maybe the number of those clowns out east who set the schedules! It was not many years back where one side of the Trans Canada was block for a hour because the last few cars blocked it. The Engineer probably thought those last cars had cleared( Nope).
Anyways. Its just a rant.
