School Supply List confusion

So, I am going through my son's school supply list and have questions . . .
How necessary is it to follow the brands listed? Is it a guide or is it a necessity?
For example, it says "1 Pkg Crayola Markers [Thick]", but we bought Laurentian brand.
And it also says "1 White Liquid Glue", but we got Elmers clear stuff.
Do these details really matter?
