Interesting bit from the Council Updates

"Transportation Services – Brandon Municipal Airport
As Council may be aware, the Brandon Municipal Airport was very fortunate to secure 1.5 million
in funding for the installation of an Instrument Landing System (ILS) through the Building Canada
Fund – Communities Component. While this system is not expected to be published by Nav
Canada until March of 2011, the high intensity approach lights are currently installed and
operational. Airport staff is happy to provide the following information.
At approximately 8:00 p.m. on December 23rd, a medevac flight operating a LearJet 35 from
Arizona landed on runway 08 at the Brandon Municipal Airport in extreme fog with minimal
visibility. After airport staff spoke to the Pilot, he stated “they were concerned about landing in
the heavy fog conditions at the Brandon Airport, and the only reason they were successful in
landing was the High Intensity Approach Lights and Lead-in Strobes”, which were recently
installed this past summer as part of the ILS project. Even without the ILS currently operating,
the flight was able to successfully land due to the new High Intensity Lights that are part of this
project. Without this component, the medevac flight would have been re-directed to Winnipeg
Airport.
This is a huge success story for the Brandon Municipal Airport and the first of many to come as a
result of the ILS being installed at the airport. Safety has now been increased for all user groups
utilizing this facility."

So right now, even though the ILS isn't fully in use yet, it has saved a plane from having to divert.
