stolen card

hi. Who here has had their credit card stolen before? My wife just recently checked her online credit card account, and found her account was racked up sky-high...and sure enough her card was missing from her wallet. No chance on it being lost, as she hasnt used it in over a month.
So somebody used it at superstore, then again the same day. And they did the same thing 3 days later. so there were 4 transactions at superstore.
She called the credit card company, and they are gonna investigate it....but what does this really mean?
This kinda burns me up, as we figure it is someone from her work that stole it.
Why would anybody do something like this?
(and it was probably for something like cigarettes too)
Anyone else have this issue before?
