The story
10/12/2007 at 12:38 AM
Well I have been patient and waited long enough for a brandon sun reply.. to know avail. So instead of writing to the editor I have decided to put my story out to ebrandon and get there opinion on who is right and who is wrong. This is a long story please read and make your opinion known. As many know my father was involved in a serious car accident as a result of a heat attack a few weeks ago. Monday to be exact. I was notified at 9 am on Monday of this accident. By the time I called Greenbay got details from ICU and called my 2 sisters I had 30 minutes to get packed and take off to Minot to catch a plane. Upon arriving in Minniapolos airport at 10pm because of delays I received a call fron Rob Henderson from the sun. He asked me to comment on the accident. My comment to him was I was enroute and had no comment as I yet didn't know what the extent was nor did I think it appropriate to comment without notifing close famly members and friends. I ask him to hold off on the story until I had more info and then I would call him with details. Upon arriving in Greenbay at midnight it was to late to call anyone I thought should know. To my amazment the Brandon Sun went ahead and ran the story with out my consent. This caused absolute chaos, as I was trying to deal with my father and family members who had arrived in Greenbay this little front page article created my cell to ring hundreds of tmes during the day(which of course went unanswered) Several close family friends and relatives were unable to be notified on Monday were reading this for the first time in the paper. This to me is careless reporting from a group of selfish newsmen for a story that they had no info on except there was an accident. They were told to repect the wishes of the family until more info was available but ignored this request and printed it anyway. I called the editor and chief that morning and his only response was "our story was accurate" WHO CARES!!! you had know story. After I had time to go over things rationally I called Rob Henderson a week later and comfronted him about my earlier request of waiting a day. He told me he wasn't comfortable about printing the story but his boss ran it anyway. I then called his boss Mr Schweega and he would not talk to me about the situation because I might sue him. What a joke. I requested an apology but was not even given a returned phone call. I hope they sold a few papers at the expense of a family going through a trajedy. 1 day would have made all the difference. Funny thing is because of this careless reporting they have missed out on the real story of a remarkable fight and amazing care and doctors that saved a man's life. To bad they missed the story that woulda sold a paper or 2. In closing my only reason for making this public is to maybe prevent the next family the same problem and hope the Sun thinks twice before they ignore the wishes of a family. We are a small community and they are our comunity newspaper. What was the hurry? 1 more thing that I missed. Their excuse... Greg Drinnan is a reporter out west apparently posted it on a blog on Monday night and they figured that gave them the right to print it. Well my Aunt doesn't read the articles on WHL websites on Monday nights, she reads your paper.
Please fell free to respond good or bad.
PS..pardon the grammar
