Labour shortage
11/11/2007 at 2:25 PM
After reading the letter in the Brandon Sun that Errol Black and Jim Silver wrote about the labour shortage in Brandon,l wonder what Tim Hortons and McDonalds though of it?
Mr.Black thinks that Tim Hortons and McDonalds are wasting their time in offering cash prizes and cars to prospective employees.they go on to say there is a large native population that they could develope strategies to pull in these members of the low income communities for employment.what is stopping members of the native communities and/or members of the low-income communities from applying for these jobs now just like any other member of the community ?? l'm sure they are more than welcome to apply for the jobs just like anyone else has the right to. No ? l never read in their want ads, natives or low income people need not apply..
Mr.Black also says that,if unions were to be successful in organizing the fast food industries, wages would rise, benifits would improve ,and more importantly, workers would win the human rights protection and the recruitment difficulties of Tim Hortons and McDonalds would be solved.do you think this would solve the labour shortage problem ? ,or would the price of Big Mac would jump to $14.99.without fries..l take it that these two places they talked about do not have unions in them ??
