Grandstands in Brandon
1/10/2008 at 4:10 PM
I've had this idea for a while now. I have made a blog for it and most recently mentioned it in the race track and casino
thread.
I think Brandon should have a Multi Purpose Entertainment Facility (grandstands) built. If I had the money and resources I would go for it but I don't. The grandstands would be designed for multi-use. Similar to whats down the road in Austin. I think it should have enough seating for 10,000 plus. A field that can have a large outer track for horse racing, another smaller inner track for stock car racing, a larger mid field area in front of the stands for other events. Some of the events that can be held at such a place can be various types of horse racing, various types of auto racing, rodeos, large outdoor concerts, various other motorsports, plus many more events. That's just some of the summer events, in the winter, ice racing, snow-x, flood the large horse track and have a
large skating oval, x-country ski trails, etc. The events that can come to Brandon are endless, and most currently don't
happen in the city. We have to travel else where. I think there are a few local dirt track race teams that have to travel to race.
Basically every week there could be something different happening there. Unlike the proposed horse track where only one event happens every week and only during the summer. How many are going to go there every week to see the same thing everytime?
Also a campground can be built to accomandate those who are preforming at the event, those who are spectators, and anyone else who is travling and wans to camp in Brandon. There can be canteens and maybe a restaurant. And who know maybe even a water park.
One of the places where I think would be a great place for it would be in the big open field between 1st, 18th and the TCH. There would be bus service on all sides. I think it wouldn't have to rely on government support and gambling to survive. It would rely on the events. It's a place that everyone can attend, not just people 18 and over. And there would be events for everyone.
I have sent the blog that I made to the Brandon Sun editor this morning, so I will be interested to see if it makes the paper and to see if it makes any waves in town. I would like to know what everyone else thinks.
