What are everyones thoughts on this? From my understanding the University is not asking for any city funding, just an endorsement from the city that their planned new facility would benefit Brandon when they take their grant applications to the Province and the Feds. I like Mayor Burgess and think he is a great guy but isn't it time that he stood up for Brandon? We've been treated as second class citizens by the province for so long that maybe he himself is starting to beleive it as fact. He says he doesn't want to take possible funding away from the other great projects that are happening in Brandon right now (ACC move, new YMCA, 18th St. bridge etc) but he needs to look at the big picture and realize that not only does the proposed fitness centre benefit the University, but our entire community as well. Mayor, please stand up and fight for our fair share of the pie.
