Rumour has it that city council is going to turn down the Brandon University application for the New Wellness Centre.  
 
It seems our cities Mayor and his voting block have decided to nix the project in favour of the new Y's expansion/reconstruction. claiming that there is would be no provincial funding for both projects,  
 
However Premier Doer recently said his government supports both projects equally.  
 
The Mayor and his block are making a mistake that will have a large economic impact on our city. The New Wellness Centre and it's athletic facilities will generate much income to the tourism industry in this city by allowing the university and local high-schools and other associations a place to hold National and International level competitions and tournaments. These competitors and supporters will purchase meals and shop and stay in hotel rooms in our fair city.  
 
The centre will be an added draw to our University, bringing more students who will again spend money in our stores, rent our apartments, and use our services,and in some cases stay and set up new business,buy homes and pay taxes.  
 
There would also be an improved lifestyle for citizens of our city. more people will have more access to healthy lifestyle choices if both facilities were to exist in our city.  
 
Please call your local councillor and the Mayors office to ensure the wellness centre is given the green light tonight. contact info etc. is on the cities web-site
