Hotel tax

I see Don Jessiman is proposing a hotel tax like what most progressive cities have. Sounds like it will be a 2% tax, just for a comparison Las Vegas has a 9% tax.
What's everyones thoughts about it?
I think it would be good for the city, it can go towards some of the things that have been mentioned in other threads, casino excluded!
