Tweety Bird's Granny
3/18/2008 at 8:43 PM
I can't believe it, I actually met Tweety Bird's Granny and her twin sister today.
I was facing east on at 10th Street & Victoria avenue waiting for my red light to turn green. A few brief seconds later, the change in light colour I was anticipating actually occured. As I began to drive through the intersection on a GREEN light, a young lady standing at the intersection, going the same direction as I, also started to cross the street on her green light. The sufferin suckatash, therrrre she wath. Granny, driving her big blue boat of a car. She was originally heading west but decided to make that left hand turn and head south. Problem was, it wasn't her turn. I was able to hammer on the breaks while the poor young lady crossing the road had to scurry quickly out the the way. I wondered who this unlawful abiding citizen was and then I saw her. Her silver hair flowing so gently as her beady eyes peered "through" the steering wheel. With her arms held high above her shoulders to reach the steering wheel, I can only imaging the effort she needed to reach the gas pedal. But she she did, too bad she could reach the break or understand the rules of the road.
So I finally pulled myself together, said a few choice words under my breath and continued east past Superstore and on my way to 1st street.
I was surprised that at 55kph, I was quickly enclosing on the car in fromt of me. Maybe it was my anxiety from seconds before when granny almost took me out. As I approached this monster of a car from behind, I was amazed that it had no driver. You can imagine my shock to go from 55 to 25 kph in a matter of seconds behind a driverless car.
WAIT A MINUTE.. what's that. I blimked twice as I saw athe movement of a silver lynx. I thought I saw a puddy cat... but it had to of been granny's twin sister. The car was the same big boat size, but the colour was green, not blue like 2 blocks previous. I could'nt believe my eyes as I finally pulled out into the left lane and passed this slow moving vehicle. Another silver haired lady, just tall enough to peer at the sky through the confines of her sterring wheel. She looked even shorter and I can only assume she was sitting on a soap box with only her cane pressing ever so lightly against the gas pedal. I think it was at that moment I feared for my life on the road so I quickly passed her, ran the amber light to get out of the way and then kept going. I never loked back, I just hope she made it to where ever she was going safley, even if it was just to hit Sylvester in the head with a broom.
Gotta love drivers these days.
