Strange Phone Call

Can someone help me understand how a person can get a phone call in their private home & their own phone # appears on the phone. I have a 3 hand set phone so when it rang at 2:30 PM today I looked at the # on the display & saw my own # I regret now that I did not pick it up to see who was on there. If anyone can share some ideas, that would be great. Thanks in advance.

They can now generate fake numbers to call you from, and they use local numbers, so sometimes you get your own.

Happened to us on Saturday - our name and number showed up on the call display - and has happened once or twice before as well. Never happens when we are home though so don't know who would be on the other end of the call if we answered.

Seen it happen on my phone twice before I was home the second time. so being curious what was going on I picked up......nothing, just silence. I figured it was just some kind of glitch or something.
