As I was turning onto Aberdeen this morning from 1st street I seen someone building something on their property. At first I thought it was maybe an odd shaped shed but then I caught a glimpse of a sign and all I could read in the little time I had was "tiny house project".  
Does anyone know what this is about?

I am building this first Tiny House Project in Brandon. The main goal is to start building not expensive Affordable Houses. This is a high quality cabin. Traditional houses and cabins are often full of unused space. You’ll be very surprised how spacious it is in reality. Everything is conceived and designed so perfectly that you can not only live comfortably but also economically.

I love this idea.  
I have come to the point where: less is more.  
Who needs all the huge homes? More to pay for and more to clean.  
Less is more, and you have time, and money, for other things.

I've been looking at several of these "Tiny Houses" on the net. A lot of them are built on flatbed trailers, which is handy if you decide that you want a change of scenery. The craftsmanship and attention to detail that goes into some of them is absolutely amazing.

There have been some changes in the ability to add secondary detached units/suites on existing properties with houses by the city planning department . Is this Tiny House fall under this new planning allowance  
 
Will it be a legal unit that falls under this new zoning allowance? Able to be occupied year around? I know this was the hope with the changes to the zoning but haven't heard of anyone actually doing it.  
 
If it falls under the zoning it would be a great real world example of what is possible and also you would be a great resource for the promotion of similar dwellings. Good luck on the build!

This Tiny House is RTM and I have a permit only to build it, so after finishing I will have to move it to other location. On your yard you are allowed to build any shed, man cave, gym, office, but no residential building with already existing residential one. I build 4 season Tiny House with appropriate insulation requirements. Behlen’s building technology helps me to build in any zoning. Thanks for supporting!

Big congratulations to you AlexD for breaking into the tiny housing scene. I think it's an important innovation in today's age for people who don't need a lot of excess and want to live without a lifetime of debt. If you have a website you should post. I'd love to see what you're doing!

Curious. Where are these homes allowed other than in possibly an RV park?

it be moved too? Is this for homeless people? I have seen these built for them? Sounds fun though.

In 2013 the city planning department made some revisions to previous by laws to allow conditional detached suites such as Garage Suites and Detached Suites. The hope at the time was to encourage different ways to address the need for housing . Not sure if anyone has actually done it or not but that was the hope. I am building now the size where I can install full bathroom with shower and a bed - 10'x14'.

I drove by the other evening and saw you working on your house. I'm very interested in small houses also and would have loved to take a closer look and possibly discuss/ask questions but didn't want to disturb you at work. I imagine you could be inundated with many lookers. I'll be more interested to see when it is pretty much complete. Will it be insulated enough to live in year round?
