Is it not illegal to back into a parking spot? I am not positive on that. So let the smart remarks begin.

on what type of parking it is. If your parallel parking then you have backup. But on the slanted parking like on 9th, then I'd say you won't want to be backing into a spot.

Never heard of it. But maybe someone can provide some info on that.. I back into all my spots it's just easier and easier to leave too

Good On you for apologizing and even better for apologizing on social media where people will have there say good and or bad.  
 
Under the Highway Traffic Act it reads as followed:  
 
Limitation respecting backing up  
192 No driver shall back a vehicle unless the movement can be made in safety and without interfering with other persons upon the highway and other vehicles lawfully thereon.  
 
At one time it was listed as Unsafe Backing.  
Thankfully nobody was injured and no damage was done to the vehicles.  
Once again it's nice to hear people apologize.

Actually the proper way to parallel park is to pull up beside the front vehicle and back into the spot as per your drivers test. People have just gotten lazy and pull straight into spots.because a lot of small cars fit into parking spaces.

Is what l was referring to, l have seen people back in to a spot or drive through to the other space so the vehicle is facing towards the traffic. I am not sure of the regulations in a parking lot. Very nice of you to do. As they say kudos to you.

Backing into parking spots. I do this all the time and now my wife is starting too also. With our truck it is much easier to back into a spot vs driving in. The truck swings into the spot much easier than straight. And with the back up camera it is easy to tell when to stop leaving you nice and tight.

It is very legal to parallel park on streets and sometimes almost mandatory. I drive by the hospital daily and people are always parallel parking by the clinic at the 4-way. The only thing that gets me frustrated is that when you are going to parallel park you have to INDICATE by pressing the brakes three times before you begin to do so and put your blinker on! I do not mind waiting at all if you need to park but I have also almost hit someone who has braked really quickly and began to park..it is a good thing you are never going too fast on those stretches of roads.
