So I just called today to view an apartment and the guy would not show it in the evening . He was before 5 only. Seriously???? I don't understand why landlords don't want to view apartments in the evening as some people can't take time off of work. I think they should be proud that they're getting tenants that are calling that actually have jobs and want to rent the apartment

What if showing the apartments is this guys job from 9 - 5. You won't take time off to go see an apartment but you want him to work after his hours. Not saying that is the case, but that did come to mind when reading your post.

And I am sure there are many that with a low vacancy rate are willing to take time off work such as asking the boss to take a little extra time on a lunch break to view a place. Makes me wonder lately about our society. Our society sure has shifted to a me...me....me...society. If we don't get what we want we complain about it. One one hand you say they need to be thankful you have a job and are wanting to rent....yet on the other hand YOU should be thankful there is a landlord offering a place to rent.

They don't want to probably because they don't have to.  
 
Considering the vacancy rate, the list of interested parties could quite literally stretch around the block. And I'm talking about people who are willing to view during work hours.  
 
I know it's frustrating but it's simple supply and demand. Landlords have their pick of many prospective tenants. And like i've said in this and other rants about landlords, they do not have to cater to you in any way shape or form, you need them more than they need you generally speaking.  
 
If the availability of un-occupied rentals in brandon was high, you'd likely get a viewing any time you wanted.

-because one landlord didn't accommodate you, you complain about landlords in plural  
 
-why should he be 'proud' that you called him?  
 
-are you certain that nobody else has a job or wants to rent that, or any other apartment?  
 
you seem to feel that you are owed something, for having made a quick phone call. not sure why that would be....

Don't understand why everyone is so against what the OP said. There has to be at least one of you out there that has bashed the OP that can't afford to take time off work. Or maybe is covering for someone that called in sick on a lunch break. Yes normally people have a small amount of flexibility with their jobs. But it's not always the case. OP never stated the landlord/ landlords should be proud of the call. But one would assume in best interest in their job as a caretaker that it's not a 9-5 job. I live in an apartment and can call my landlord anytime of day or night. If my plumbing isn't working or crazy outrageous noise he wants to know. I'm trying to see both sides of the coin here. I actually feel a bit bad for the OP for everyone that is so one sighted and commented on this discussion.

You are confusing existing and prospective customers. If a new customer wants to contact me, they need to do it during regular business hours. Existing customers can call me any time of day. As a tenant, I'm sure you would not be impressed if your issues were on the back burner because your landlord was accommodating new customers and neglecting their existing to do so.

It could also be that the current occupant of the suite had agreed to showings during the hours offered by the landlord. When requesting to show a space to a prospective new renter, the landlord must give the current tenant 24 hours notice of intent to enter the suite and the tenant has a right to object within reason. This could add to some of the other possible reasons provided by other posters (another job, many buildings and spaces to show, not wanting to waste personal time for "no shows", etc.) that a landlord would be adamant about specific dates and hours for possible viewings. The reality is that renting is challenging for landlords and renters alike and everyone needs to try to be flexible when possible. If you're not able to see the space during the proposed time then it isn't meant to be and it's best to continue your search as the vacancy rates are quite low and finding suitable housing isn't an easy task.
