i have used it for years and years and have gotten some really good deals, out of the 40 or so times i used it i was unhappy once and it was on a buy now, we were stuck for a room and took our chances on mediocore reveiws, what a mistake but most of the times i have been more then happy once getting a brand new hotel for $35 that included 2 weeks of free airport parking and shuttle that would have cost me $700, that was awesome :D
as for how it works it has been a bit but you can look at what they have in the area so you have an idea the star levels, then you go into bid now, you have 3 chances to bid in 24 hrs but you have to change something, either widen your area, include more star levels ect, cant remember the options, anyway if your bid is accepted you find out your hotel, just like other auctions tho you accept its yours so you are taking your chances, if your bid is not accepted you can change something and try again, if none are accepted in the day you can either wait until tomorrow or then go the buy now option
there is also the deal option which is a combo of the bid and what i use now i have children so i can make sure i get a pool, that option gives you the price and area but not the name, not as good of deals but still decent
one complaint i have heard and you should know is once you buy its yours, i heard its hard to get a refund from priceline, i have never tried but keep that in mind
