They are so bad lately ... On 1st to 6th to 10th making people wait 10-25 minutes.

They seriously need to find a better time for this train to run ...  
Not between 8-9 in the morning and 3-5 in the afternoon! We have work and school

unfortunately the trains are national so its not very practical for them to schedule around every towns needs so i would suggest if you know they are blocking the way from 8-9 and it is when you would go to school or work that you leave 15min earlier to avoid them or take another route, i know thats a pain but in the long run its what you have to do to avoid your frustrations

They would figure out the scheduling if they were fined for every minute of street blockage past ten minutes. Maybe double the fine during those hours suggested by MischaTele.  

I waited @ 17th Street East at 11:00 this morning for 30 minutes! Ridiculous!

It was 820AM on my way to work and we had to stop for the train. The train ran for ten minutes, stopped - blocking us for five minutes and reversed for ten minutes. The traffic was so bad when the train was gone. We waited twenty five minutes and I was late for work. Lovely!! They don't have a specific schedule. They decide whenever they want to run the train ....

I asked someone that I know that works for CN about that...they said to contact Transport Canada and complain...not CN. Maybe if there were enough complaints, they would be required to change...

Unless one has $300 million or so to either move CN's train yard (so one will complain on Highway 10 etc. about a new train crossing) or build a bunch of under / over passes , there's nothing one can do. CN won't invest any money on their branch line.

$300 Million wouldn't put a dent in it.

We have nothing to complain about when compared to the stuff Rivers has put up with for years.  
 
Rivers has had one or two engineers that have really gone out of their way to be difficult for that town.

I agree. Not a dint. Then I ask just whose land would have to be expropriated? Someone today own it. I do think though that CN is pushing their luck.  
 
Shunting 24/7 is ok as it is a rail yard. Slow trains yep ok. We need to ignore the delays recently because of track up grades.  
 
Having said all that in no way shape or form should in town roadways be blocked 15 or 20 minutes other than something broke.  
 
In CN's case these new monster trains can cut the city in half from 1st to 34th. It is not the time of day we can bring to task. It is how long the traffic that also may include first responders have to wait.  

One of the biggest delays is in getting the air brake system properly charged with pressurized air. Once a train is put together, it can't move until air pressure levels throughout the brake system have reached certain levels. As it gets colder, this takes longer to do. Breaking the train apart to let traffic pass causes the process to start all over again. These procedures are for safety and are required by law. Sorry, but there's nothing the train crews can do about it, so please don't get mad at them. They are just doing their jobs.
