As the title says im looking for info on permits and safeties, I have looked on mpi's web site and its not clear to me so if anyone can answer my questions would be very helpful. Of course I cant phone any because they are all closed today TIA  
 
-How long you can permit a vehicle without a safety for?  
 
- Is there an exempt period for newer vehicles that dont need the yearly safety done? ...i seem to remember a while back within 2 years of manufacture a safety wasnt required but im not sure if that is accurate.  
 
- lastly if i am SOL with the other two ideas does anyone know of a kind shop owner that will take pity on me and fit a basically new car in for a safety tomorrow?  
 
Basically i bought a next to new car and now my dad is in hospital in Bc and I want to get my but out there asap so if i can find a way to insure my new car which should pass a safety no issue (barley driven off the lot) then i can do what i need to do and get out to help him so any help/ideas are appreciated  
 

Temp permits of 2 months total, they can still issue you one after but if something happens afterwards you are not covered because you are only allowed 2 months every 12 months.  
 
Safety is required at all times, brand new is only exception. If it is brand new from bc you should be okay if It is the first time it is being registered. Otherwise it will need an out of province inspection from BC or a Manitoba safety

I reread the post. Call around someone will probably be able to get you in tomorrow if you can drop it off and wait for it to be done. Call Mansoff bros at like 8 and see what they can do. Other than literally try every place in the phone book

thanks garret, I have permitted a vehicle to bring it home from another province but this one is a mb vehicle  
 
do you know if can i still put a month permit on it and drive it and worry about the safety when i get home?

You can get a permit as long as it hasn't failed a safety, they will ask you if think it will pass a safety say it will or they will just give you a transport permit that is good to and from the location.

For some reason I believe you can't leave province with a permit? I may be wrong but. There's a lot of places to get a car safetied so I'd just call around, it isn't a long process if nothing is wrong. I also believe you can swap plates on a vehicle for up to a week after purchase (if you bought this car to replace a different one)? I don't know if you can leave province like that either but it's another suggestion!

I do know you can drive it from a different province home on a permit, i did that last year to get a car home and also years ago with a trailer but i wasnt sure on the rest, anyway hopefully something works out tomorrow, ill be up first thing working on it
