thats sad, im guessing the kids were just out to have a bit of fun but didnt know about the gate, i wonder if there would be a way for the park to put something at the top to stop this from happening again, assuming that is where they went in, anyway something to remind your kids about when they think its no big deal to go have some fun, there is usually a reason the thing is closed

getting killed trespassing in a dangerous location is tragic for the families, but come on-wtf-nobody to blame but their own stupid selves. Have you seen that luge run? A peson would have to be suicidal to go near it--shear ice drop--this is not anywear near a tobbogan run on the north hill in Brandon  

This is absolutely a tragedy and regardless of why those kids died, the families will be forever changed.  
 
That being said, I'm all for kids having fun but why couldn't they do that during park hours like everyone else instead of trespassing?  
 
Why should an act of crime be passed off as kids having fun?

Very sad. Should they have done it? No. Should we be sympathetic? Yes. It's no different than your child getting into a passenger seat with a drunk driver. Yes they know better but kids/teens even adults think they're invisible. Someone still lost a child, sibling, friend.. etc. Life will never be the same. Hugging those who are affected.

thats what i was trying to say. there should have defiantly not trespassed and even if the park could secure the run more it is still the trespassing and their own fault BUUUUT we all know we made stupid decisions when we were young, most of us realized our mistakes before they killed us unfortunately these guys didnt and their family's are left to morn, very sad and i do hope other kids learn from these guys mistakes

Very tragic ending to what these kids thought was a harmless breaking of the rules.

I am shocked there is not one on the go already, seems to be in order before the ink is dry on the news reports these days, whether warranted or not.

Exactly.....To try and put a bunch of people on a sled and ride down is pure insane. Yes it is sad people lost their lives but it could have been a lot worse. I have been down this track many times in my younger days and when I was hitting almost 100km/hr on a professional sled it makes me wonder what they were thinking on a typical toboggan sled. I feel for the parents of these children.

As a teenager my group of friends used to head up to the north hill and toboggan down in the dark. Way back before any developments happened up there. Was it an accident waiting to happen...for sure. I mean, we weren't trespassing (I don't think)not that it would have stopped us, Im sure. You think you are out for some harmless fun...and it sure was! You can call the kids stupid or deserving, but my heart breaks for the families as no parent deserves this kind of loss. The truth is (and its documented by psychologists)that the part of the brain affecting judgement and logic is not fully developed at that age, especially in boys. Solution? Not sure, but its a tragic and unfortunate state of events.

It said on the news that they were 17 year-old twin brother who were "hill ambassadors" there last winter. You would think that being familiar with the hill they would know better.  
Very sad.
