Just wondering if anyone knows approx. costs for moving a house. We are looking to buy land and put a house on it, but since we have never done this before we are not sure on the moving costs as well as hydro/water hookup. Any information would be appreciated

That is the best as there a a few variables, mainly size of building, one or two story or more, distance to name a few. Look in the yellow pages. We used one from Onanole a few years back, not sure if he is still in business, but provided good service.

Calling a mover would be the best way to get an accurate quote. However, from getting quotes, I can tell you that it is quite expensive. Looking at 9-10 thousand to jack a house up and put it on the truck, then pay by how far it is being moved. Extra if MB Hydro needs to cut power lines (ie- if the house is over a certain height). A RTM wouldn't be as much, due to being already up on blocks, and usually they aren't so tall to require hydro.

I would start calling some home movers. There are too many questions you leave open. Anyone can pull out a number. Is it across the street, 100 miles, another province, etc? Is it in 2 pcs? Is it over height? Best to call a company.

Twenty years ago we had a house and basement moved. The mover charged $3200 to move the house and basement. I know of two house moves in the past couple of years. One was $15000. The other $12000.  
 
As other poster note, there are many variables. Movers estimate based on time. Lifting the house up and getting it on skids and setting it down often eat up a lot of time. Generally distance traveled by comparison is relatively minor.  
 
If power lines have to be lifted it can be costly.

The cost of moving the house is only a small part of the cost.  
Your new to you home will need to meet all codes before you will get your occupancy permit.

If it is an older house do not plan to move it into the Brandon and Area Planning district. If you do it will have to be upgraded to 2016 building codes and that includes electrical, plumbing and insulation

How do you move a basement? I can't imagine that would be cost effective, just my opinion!
