i have a friend whos wages will be garnished. Im wondering how that works? Do they take a certain percent off each cheque or monthly?

Did a quick google search. And in Manitoba the garnishment can be up to 30 % of the pay cheque and it is taken off of every pay cheque. So if paid bi-weekly, it comes off every two weeks until debt is paid. They take dependants into consideration for determining the amount as well.

garnishment paper will say on it how much take off.

the government only has to leave you with 250$ off each check and they take the rest, so if you get paid bi-weekly you will get 500 a month...believe me I know, this is what they did to me until the debt was paid in full

It depends on why they are being garnished. The Order tells how much and it can change from person to person.

They'll take 40%....until it's paid or you file bankruptcy...if you're looking for advice or answers you should elaborate a bit...how much? To whom?

alot of speeding tickets.. went over the paperwork with my friend today its 30% until its paid..i was just looking on how that worked.. So thanks everyone who commented
