people that hate their job should change job because you become just as a complainer than customers and you become annoying to rest of the staff also.  
If you think in retail isn't that great job then do not apply for police force, what do you think they face and deal with people.

If I managed a store that closed at 9 I would want to know if I had employees like Hello738274 or speakmymind as the customers dollars outnumber her wages and would cut my costs, sorry hello, speakmymind, your NOT good for business, in my opinion

Allows smokers an hourly 5 minute smoke break and apparantly has us, customers who ask things or line up wrong

I worked retail for over 10 years and even though I am not a "cashier" I still have clients. Nobody is perfect bit you are paid to help them as much as possible. When I first started at 15 I had a customer slap me on the hand just because I started to ring her items through and even had customers firther in the line ask me how I was when she left. I didn't ignore her, my moto is "kill them with kindness" where it is obvious that I don't mean "kill" her I just acted extra helpful and cheerful. Even now I try my hardest to be extra cheerful when I help someone. I often get the question "how come you are always so cheerful?" It is just the right thing to do. What is really scary is the people who are now coming I to the workforce they think they should be paid for doing nothing, paying more attention to their phones then customers, and have a disgusted face when they work. We all have to start somewhere and what ever job you get you will always have customers.  
 
Just be happy you have a job, there are people who don't have one and actually want one.

Who cares if you stay 15 more min???? I have worked hours more then 'what was scheduled'. If you have a customer with a large cart full do you just leave because your shift is over?? Of course not! You stay until you finish the job!  
 
In my office job I would stay later if help was needed or I needed to finish something before I left and alot of the times I didn't get paid any extra.

see what I'm looking for and have to ask for help, the product is usually right in front of my face and then I feel bad for asking but that's me, lol  
 
I feel like a lot of customers think retail workers are their door mat and it's not right. Every body deserves respect! And kindness! This world needs more kindness  
 
If I'm shopping and I witness rudeness towards cashiers I speak up, so should others!
