My apologies if this topic has already been covered in a previous thread and I missed it...anyone know which new food option is coming to the Shoppers Mall food court, I believe in the former sushi location. Renos appear to be underway and signage says something new and exciting is coming soon. Just curious lol

Complete speculation without any inside source, but I'd start with a few of their malls in similar-sized centres in Western Canada. Every market's different, but here are a few names that are in Morguard's malls in one or some of Red Deer, Grande Prairie, Prince George but not Brandon...

- Jugo Juice (thought there was a time when they were to be setting up in a different space in Brandon?)
- Arby's
- Taco Time (been there, done that?)
- Edo
- Opa

i'm also hoping for an opa or something that makes a good pad Thia

i had looked into an opa franchise once but didnt get that far, i think it might do ok in brandons market, being its something different

Come back, Arbys!!! Maybe they'll do better in a food court setting and not right off 18th Street.Whatever does come will be great, I'm sure.

Wasn't there just either a discussion or announcement somewhere not long ago that Swiss Chalet is going to build in the northeast corner of the old target parking lot and something was going in the mall? I'm drawing a complete blank about what that "something" is right now.. but I know I heard it. Of course after the jugo juice thing, who knows what to believe for sure! I know it's not Arby's that was listed anyway (yuck!) and it wasn't Opa! either. Darn, if I remember or find out.. I will post again!

** update... It's supposed to be Harvey's.

As far as anything I've seen goes, Swiss Chalet/Harveys are just speculation/rumour. I haven't seen any kind of announcement or comment from players directly involved that would confirm. If it did happen, I think it would be more along the lines of what you see in the pic below than anything involving the Food Court?

I miss their onion petals, the baked potatoes,hot melted cheese, sauce.......all of it!
Have to agree with Cam, think the previous location just wasn't the best.

My mistake, I couldn't remember where I heard it. Yes possibly total speculation, and I didn't realize that Harvey's and Swiss Chalet partner up for some locations!

On that note, It wasn't Jugo Juice either that I thought was supposed to set up shop in the mall, it was Freshly Squeezed... what happened to that?

I agree with another poster, if Thai Express came here, I would likely eat at the mall once a week! Love them!

You're right... it was Freshly Squeezed and not Jugo Juice that was going into the spot next to Hallmark. That was supposed to be back in 2014 but obviously didn't work out. For what its worth the Freshly Squeezed website has a "coming soon - Shoppers Mall Brandon" under their locations section... but not sure how much confidence I have in that as the most recent press release on their site is from 2012.

Jugo Juices are in the Morguard malls in Red Deer and Grande Prairie. FWIW Jugo doesn't have a single location in any Saskatchewan city though do have a few in Winnipeg.

Re Swiss Chalet/Harveys I ended up connecting with the franchisee this morning and they've preparing to build in the corner of the parking lot. Posted in that separate thread:

I think a food court venue of Chili Chutneys would be amazing...would attract more people to the mall for sure. And who wouldnt love some butter chicken after your shopping trip? Yum!

Not sure if it would be in this space or elsewhere, but have heard rumblings (of the unconfirmed/unofficial/rumour variety) that Thai Express is looking at a Brandon location. Certainly not far-fetched if they're already in the Red Deer/Medicine Hat level of market.

Food court construction

I noticed several weeks ago that the sign announcing something "new and exciting is coming soon" has been removed and there appears to have been nothing done construction-wise behind the plastic covering the space so am wondering if plans have not worked out for whatever business was originally planning to fill that location.

Thai Express has confirmed for me that the do in fact plan to open a Brandon location by the end of 2016. No word on if it is for sure the mall, from either Thai Express or the mall.

The sobers thread showed an artist rendering and it looks like Five guys is not longer in their plans since they square off that section.

that's sad that five guys might be leaving.

I actually went and got lunch on my 18th birthday from there.
Any confirmation whether they're leaving or not?

Re Five Guys.... My understanding is that while there are a lot of moving parts to the updates taking place there are no plans for them to leave the mall.

Has anyone heard when Thai Express in the mall is opening? The "coming soon" sign seems to have been up for forever. If I remember correctly there was a "now hiring" sign a while ago, bit it seems to be gone now. I have been patiently waiting for my Thai fix.

Looks like Thai Express must have hit some turbulence, November 2016 was 3 months ago.

Hopefully they can open soon. I have been looking forward to my fix.
