Next Wednesday a by-election takes place for the Riverview ward. Three people are running, Glen Parker, Delvina Kejick and Tyson Tame.  
 
What are people's thoughts on who to vote for?  
 
Here's what I want in a councillor, I want the person to be a fighter! Stand up for their constituents.  
 
I don't want a councillor with an agenda to help some while forgetting about the rest of us!  
 
It is important to ask yourself, which of these three people are interested in talking to you?  
 
After all this talk about what I want in a councillor now I want a different one! lol!

He earned my vote last time and he will have my vote again.

I overheard her having a conversation a couple weeks back in a restaurant with someone and was really impressed by the way she thinks about things. She seems like she is truly out for the peoples best interested. No just benefiting herself and her personal business at the same time.

I would like to support someone who lives in the Riverview ward but this isn't the case in this bi election, all though Glen Parker did for many years and does know a lot of the people in the area he will get my support not only for this reason but also because he is heavily involved with the east end community centre as a board member and volunteer. To me he is as close to a resident of the ward as a person could get without actually living here. Unless I'm missing something he is the only person running in the election that is already involved in the community and this is why he gets my vote.

Tyson will get my vote this time around. Tyson ran in the last election we had when Vanessa Hamilton was victorious. Showing that he is running again just shows that he wants this so much and wants to be here making a difference in the Riverview Ward. Should be an interesting one though!

He has proven that he has an interest in the East End. He and his wife spend countless hours volunteering and organizing events at the East End Community Centre. He has years of experience being a leader as he was the president of Brandon Minor Hockey for many years. He is the only candidate, as far as I know, who has been actively involved in  
the community, not just at election time.

to a council meeting I seen Tyson Tame sitting in the audience and have heard he has attended most of the meetings since. This goes to show me his desire to serve.

I will vote for Tyson as well. I've heard he has shown committment to many different groups in Brandon, so would be able represent a greater variety of people.

I agree, That's what we need is someone who gives his or her's spare time to make a change and do a great job with the Riverview Ward!

Tame only shows up in the Riverview Ward when there is an election to win. We need someone who has a vested interest in the east end and Glen Parker seems to be the best of the 3. He was easy to talk to when he came to my door, he seems to have more experience.  
 
The one thing I was concerned about was that I agreed with Tame about nomimating the water tower as a heritage building. Doing some research (Facebook haha) it turns out that this has been in the works with a group Parker has been working with for a while. This just showed me who has been working for our community before there was something to gain.

Hmm...I didn't know Parker was involved with the water tower but I'm not on FB, maybe that's why.  
 
I like Tame because I feel (from experience) that he would never pass by a person without speaking. He is friendly and down to earth. Believe I know a lot of people who do look right thru me.  
 
I know that Tame has been attending council meetings and that shows me he is serious about serving. Have the other two candidates, Glen and Delvina been to any council meetings?

There is a post with an email from the city in February regarding Parkers request to address city council regarding nominating the water tower as a heritage site, that's what you missed on fb.  
 
Although I don't personally know any of the candidates, I'm not doubting you that Tame is a nice guy, he is a salesman, he wouldn't find any success in that business by not being nice. I'm sure they are all nice people.

My vote will be going to Glen Parker. Glen has shown his commitment to the Riverview ward and will make the concerns of the East End citizens his number one priority. Having friends on the board of the East End Community Center, and reading Tyson's claim that he did "landscaping" at the EECC, I had to ask what he had done. There was no landscaping done to the EECC grounds, so I'm not sure what he did. As far as the water tower is concerned, the EECC has done a lot of research in the last year to present to city council to nominate the tower as a heritage site, not sure how Tyson can claim the he is doing it now. I feel that Tyson is the kind of person that is running for the Riverview ward just for the sake of being on city council. Glen is running because he cares about the ward and wants to help improve what is needed and preserve all that the East End has to offer.

It seems like the front runner always gets slagged off, remember the provincial election. Man people were crapping all over Len Isleifson and Brian Pallister.

"I have owned two homes in the Riverview ward, the tower is an essential part of the east end's identity. A lot of headway has already been made thanks to many community members. I am not taking credit for the work already done. I am simply making it public that I will be supporting these initiatives heavily if elected!

So anyone that needs to confirm the facts can have a look on FB and see that Tame is NOT trying to take credit for the idea of the tower being made a heritage site.

Lots of negativity from Parker supporters.

You obviously don't do your research well if you think he's taking credit for something that's been done TYSON ROCKS!

Regardless of what happens on May 18th, I wanted to thank all of my supporters/friends that took the time to share my posts and keep me in their news feeds, humbled by over 2000 views on this photo, Thank-you! Many people have grown tired of so much election coverage, but I want to encourage the Riverview electorate to hang on for a wee bit longer, this is an important decision. I don't know my opponents well, but I have asked many others about them and I am excited that Ward #9 will be well represented going forward no matter which way the vote goes!

Delvina has a similar classy post on her page saying good things about the other two candidates. Well if Parker suddenly does the same we'll know he reads ebrandon.

I never like slamming the other guy/woman as a campaign strategy. (Not that Parker is, but his supporters seem to).

I wouldn't say all Parker supporters are negative, not enough posts on here to generalize a whole group.

We need someone who will stand up for the residents of this ward and find out why we are always at the bottom of the list to get anything done snowplowing is almost always done last they will even haul snow from other areas of town before we see a plow as well street sweepers have been out for weeks but as usual the East End has yet to be done

Anyone watch city council tonight? Congratulations Tyson on receiving an honorable mention for your efforts in the clean sweep challenge.With Riverview lacking a Councillor it was good that you stepped up and made us proud. That's leadership.

but thanks for sharing this. nice to see Tyson getting out and helping with the clean sweep. shows he is serious about the ward and city issues!  
 
was there any wards that got missed? I didn't see anyone picking up garbage in my ward and believe you me we could have used a cleaning! other years volunteers were seen picking refuse but no this year.

I agree with what Jordynsdad had to say. The services in the East End are lacking a lot... Haven't seen a snow plow over here in my part of the Riverview ward for lord knows how long and for how much sand they dump on our roadways in the east end you'd think we would get the first crack at the Street Sweepers. But of course not... they still haven't made there way out here yet. We need someone who will step up and ask these questions for us and make things happen. And to be honest I believe Tyson is the man to do it.

I finally had to take a rake to the leaves and crap beside my curb because it was beginning to grow small trees.  
 
I find his empathy for the small or micro businessman in town to be refreshing. Not all of us were handed an inherited business or a big chunk of money to get a business started and need all the help we can get. When discussing challenges with him he had some very good ideas and plans for support.

As a resident in the East End I have tried to be involved the most I can. Iam also a business owner and are on a couple other community boards that represent Westman !! I have NEVER seem Tyson Tame. Not once !!! He's not at The East End Community Centre gatherings, meetings or helping with the kids and the ice in the winter. I have never seen him at any Brandon Chamber events. I have never seen or heard about what he's doing with any thing. The only thing I have ever seem from his are his for sale signs.  
The East End has a community, it has a strong past and a very strong future. I know who Im voting for in this election and It will for someone who knows their way around the area, it will be a face and voice everyone recognizes. It will be for someone who will fight for the area and for the best interest of our city. I will not vote for someone that just wants to sit on city council. The councillors that belong there are only those who have the best interest of their communities all the time not only when there is a election.
