You won't see them around all summer. Little more info at the link below that I think is about the same caterpillar. Says they feed for 6-8 weeks after which you start seeing them crawling on sidewalks, lawns, etc like we already see some right now. From the link natural predators i:nclude Wild Turkeys... Hmmm

Winnipeg article but quite relevant to what we've seen here in many ways. Everything you possibly wanted to know about the things (and then some) at the link below. Winnipeg is done with control efforts as the caterpillars have moved on from the feeding stage to the stage of making a cocoon.... Leading for what they say could in July be a "golden storm of moths." Makes me wonder if they have it worse off than us... To me as many as I step on every time I go for a walk I feel like last year was a little worse in our area of the city at least in terms of visual damage.

I tried to find out if any spraying has been done in my area. (The weather has not been ideal.) So I called the city. This area is not yet sprayed.

My Saskatoon and pin cherries are gone.

anyone seen any of these lately? They creep the hell out of me and I want to spend some time outside in the yard if they are gone.  
 
I saw none on the weekend at last, and don't know if that's just because of the weather or if they are out of here.

The caterpillars have finished eating and are now in the pupae stage of there lifecycle. Soon they will emerge from there cocoons and we will have thousands of moths buzzing around. Horray!

I will take moths over caterpillars any day.  
 
I just squashed over 20 cocoons from my shed.  
That should help a little.

Front steps were covered in the crawlers at lunch today. We went a few days seeing none and here we go again - big and small ones!

If what's all over the neighbour's house is any indication, we're onto the moth phase....

did that last night and our daughter was terrified to come in thru the front door, the moths were insane.

I didn't realize that all of those brown moths were the tent caterpillars, but I googled it and yes they are. Not sure how long the span is for them but I am getting some spray to try and get as many as I can around my place.

They live a max of 7 days and die so its not really worth the effort or cost.

yep left the outside light on last night and that whole side of the house was covered. Swept them all done as my kid was scared to use the door too. haha!
