I posted on here about a year ago asking for help to find the burial places of residents that had passed away while at the sanatorium in Ninnete. I received some good leads for the family in question in fact even being able to retrieve the death certificate for them. This led us to both the Griswold and the Sioux Valley cemeteries. In Sioux Valley the grave sites are just marked with crosses no names. In Griswold they are marked with initials.  
 
This is my daughter in laws gramma from Nunavut. As no one was in Manitoba to claim her body they buried her in one of the above cemeteries.  
 
My question now is where do we look for the records of who is buried in these graves. With nothing left in Ninnete we are at a standstill.  
 
Several members of the family are here in Brandon for the next few days. Any leads or information as to how to go about finding these records would be greatly appreciated.

While you were at Sioux Valley, did you check with the administration office to see if they had any burial records?  
Also, was there not a cemetery just South East of the Sanitorium in which the deceased residents were placed if no family to claim them?  
My Aunt used to teach there for many years , but she has since passed on. I see  
m to remember when we went to visit her that there was a cemetery there.  
Good luck with your search. Another thought: Maybe the Brandon Regional health authority may have some info that may be of help.

The Rural Municipality or Band that looks after those cemeteries should have records of the burial plots.

Tried to help us today but unfortunately there are no records of who was buried in the plots. They were buried there and white crosses placed to mark the plots.  
 
I would like direction into how to go about finding any of the records of death and burial from the sanatorium. Someone somewhere must have these records.  
 
It is heartbreaking for the family as they have traveled so far to hit this wall.

The Belmont RM does have some info as they put up a memorial for some of the people buried in Belmont. Rod Capon was heading up some of this. His phone number is under Belmont. Was she there for Sanitorium or when it was the residential school?

I understand that most of the people that passed at the Ninette Sanatorium were buried at Belmont because the undertaker they used was from Belmont. Very few were returned to their families elsewhere. Belmont cematary is probably where you should be looking.

I have uploaded a picture of the death certificate. It shows that she was buried at Griswold. But the name markers in Griswold just has initials on them. There are several that match her initials. Hence the need to find the records of burial. I did take the family to the Cairn that is situated one the site of the old Mental Hospital. Her name was not listed, but they discover a few names that they recognized.  
 
They are going to try Sifton Municipality Office this morning as the Griswold Cemetery is situated within their boundaries.  
 
I have forwarded the information for the gentleman in Belmont to them as well.

Some cemetery's have limited records. If you are sure about Griswold you should have a good chance of finding grave. You said several were the same initials but were the the same date? Death certifiacate hard to read. In 1950 at our cemetery we dug graves by hand. This ended in aprox. 1965. I was born in 1952 and i remembered the graves i help dig. Look for some old timers or relatives who may have heard about the san and likely there was more than one burial. Good luck on your search.

church may have an idea. Most rural churches used to keep a record, I know I've found better information on unmarked/poorly marked graves in local churches than in any municipal offices. Most are just hand written books logging deaths and burials kept by members of the clergy and can be difficult to read, but the information in them is invaluable

Normally the cemetery gets a copy of the death certificate and they should be able to match it to a grave. Find who is on the cemetery board of the cemetery you are looking for. The cemetery board should have a map of all grave sites.
