I do not how to enforce those pathway stop signs for cyclist and probably not many (drivers or cyclists) know that but pathways like on along 34th st, 18th st, victoria ave, traffic circle do have a post at the end of intersections with a STOP SIGN for cyclist so that means you, cyclist, should stop.  
I do not care for cyclists ride on the sidewalk even if they are not supposed to be there but on an intersection cyclist do stop and look before riding across the street, let the drivers go first.  
I hear people afraid ride their bike on the road but do not you realize that most of them do not follow or know the rules of a cyclist at all. You do not ride in any directions how you feel like or think you have the right of way first or be on a sidewalk if you wish but stop and look first. I find a lot easier and safer to follow the rules.  
My opinion anyway.

While cycling the paths I find a lot of driver's either ignore or don't notice those small and odd looking stop signs for cyclists on the path. It then turns into a game of chicken where both me the cyclist and the driver end up stopping for one another.  
 
At this point the driver usually ends up motioning for me to go and causes a dangerous situation by refusing to follow signage and backing up vehicles behind him. I've pointed at the path stop sign and verbally yelled to the driver to go as they have the right of way, but some just don't get it and I end up having to cross to finally get things going again.

What I find is those stop signs are behind another sign so drivers cannot see the sign for bikes to stop. I know it is a battle of who goes first when I try to point out the signs but when they cannot see them I look like an idiot pointing. Look at street view at 1st and Aberdeen. A vehicle would see a green sign for bikes and pedestrians. Behind the green signs is the bikes must stop sign. It makes it confusing when you cannot see something.

Talk about not knowing the rules of the road.  
If the both the car and the bike have stop signs, its first come first to go.

no. It is not a stop sign for both just the cyclist and no drivers will not see the stop sign because it is showing on the pathway for cyclist to see and stop. But I find the city should make the stop sign on pathways way much bigger to be more noticeable.  
When a driver stops for me (being on my bike) I wave at them to keep driving because it is me to stop because as a driver I hate to stop when a cyclist or even a pedestrian is crossing that they are not supposed to go.

Let me get this straight.  
Car or bike, if they beat you to the intersection you still need to stop at your stop sign.  
So you are saying that you don''''''''t need to stop at your stop sign.

At most of the bike paths in this city, the stop sign for the vehicles who are driving on the road is right before where the bike/walking paths intersect with the road. For example at 17th street east and Douglas street, McDiarmid drive and 34th street, McDiarmid drive and Victoria avenue and Knowlton drive and Braecrest. All have stop signs before the bike paths. So considering that cyclist have to follow the rules of the road and there is stop signs on the bike paths for cyclist, would it not be considered a four way stop and who ever is there first can go first?

have no idea what you are talking about. A stop is a stop.  
I sure didn't explain my words probably if you think I meant keep go through a stop sign.  
And stop signs aren't mine I didn't create or put them there.  
Next time you walk on pathways just look and you will see small stop sign on post for cyclists at least that is how I understand it.

If my daughter had not been with me, I would have hit a cyclist at the 30th street bike path...or he would have hit the hood of car.  
He was quite far back when I pulled up slowly ...I looked for cars, started forward & my daughter yelled " STOP! " ...as the idiot sailed at high speed right through the stop sign on the bike path & right in front of my AR missing the hood by inches.

do not know in what way to make all cyclists know their rules. Some I have talk to didn't realize the cyclist has to stop at some pathways when a car is coming.  
I think it will go a lot better between drivers and cyclists if both knew each other's rule on the road. I guess that century to get along between both will never happen.  
I am talking this not only as a driver but as a regular cyclist too.  
Maybe parents should teach the right way to their children but I see parents do goofy stuff themselves.  
Once I saw a mother on a bike with her toddler sit behind her on a seat riding on the sidewalk and I stunned to see as she didn't slowed down and even take a look to her left see if a car would make a right turn and hit her. As a parent she rode from a sidewalk to the other side of sidewalk as she expected any car to see her and stop for her so how will she teach her kid later. I see just as many adults than teenagers ride their bike in air head way.  
I guess I will do my part to ride in a more safer way to prevent ending up underneath a car.

The issue is lack of enforcement.  
 
What good are rules to keep everyone safe if our city police are not going to proactively go out and do some enforcement? (And I am not suggesting just focus on cyclists, they don't seem to care about enforcing most common driving laws like incorrect lane taking after turns, stop sign/light running and texting while driving)  
 
I get it, crimes taking place in the city should come first, but I think large blitzes with media follow up need to be more prevalent in this city. The more it is publicized, the more people are going to be aware and maybe do their own research to make sure they are following rules?? Hope so.  
 
I laughed when WInnipeg PS were so happy to announce drivers ticketed in school zones were down. What they did not make widely public was that ENFORCEMENT of the zones was down too. Same thing here - I have not seen a radar trap in my kids' school zones since November. Of course tickets are down, they have not been there to catch people!!

Calgary is just one example of very good enforcement and awareness.  
 
They have nice bike trails (and I am sure there are many more of them since I lived there over 10 years ago). They seem to take bike safety rules very seriously. My hubby was once given a warning for not having a bell on his bike. They are mandatory as well as helmets. They also take bike road rage seriously - if you are not being courteous you will be ticketed.  
 
I don't like using our trails here because not only are bells not used, there is a big lack of manners both with joggers and bikers using the trails. Scares the crap out of you to be overtaken by faster moving bikes if they do not announce themselves!
