No, I'm not complaining. I'm just expressing my observation after moving to Brandon.     For folks wondering about my conversation with men and others;     "Are you serious? I hate you already" - To guys pumping heavier weights at gym     "Feel free to call the ambulance if you see me passed out, or you'll be reason for my death" - To anyone walk pass me at gym     "You're a racist" - To a 7th grade kid for not understanding my English (of course, in front of his mom)     "Are you saying no to me just because I'm not white?" - To a mature woman patient in hospital     "Could you please wait? I wanna tell the stylist to make me look like you" - To guys at salon     "If you guys think I'm following you, you're damn right" - To a couple I bumped into again and again (by accident) in Walmart     The list goes on and all were strangers. I didn't plan or think, I just said what came to my mind at that time. Was it awkward/stupid/inappropriate - Hell yeah! Did we have a good laugh - You bet!     I ain't Einstein, but it's just hard to not notice when I jog in Victoria and everyone passing by says hi, except a certain gender in a certain age group at a certain city. I simply thought it's a good topic for ebrandon. Especially,     - when kids can take a joke and don't find me creepy   - when guys/mature women can take a compliment and don't find me hitting on them   - when a patient can laugh so easily     I just find it interesting that young women in this nice little city of "friendly" Manitoba to be bit serious. I still don't get it, but I can see your points. Thanks everybody and sorry eh "

Try give up the trying to be funny routine, it's like listening to an amateur stand up comedian who laughs at his own jokes, if you want girls/people to like you, try bieng nice, nobody likes sarcasm. Some people ask questions or advice when they want others to talk to them. The method you mentioned would repel people in other cities or towns as well. Talk less, listen more, good luck

In a way I feel sorry for you, in different treads you have mentioned about what you have to look like, or be like, or even act like to be acceptable to the opposite sex, and what you describe represents less than 5% of the population when it comes to being perfect. Even on the age issue I know many people who have no problems with more than 4 years difference, and the comment that the only reason people talk to one another is to hook up is laughable to many of us ordinary people. I have appreciated the fact that the opposite sex exists from the time I was six years old, and felt free to talk to them, and at that age I don't think sex played any part in it. You consider the greeting "hello" to be lame and yet it is so acceptable to most people, well maybe not the people who are perfect, or those who lack the confidence to engage others and draw lines for where things are going.  
 
I have been lucky that I have been able to read people, and even at my age can appreciate women of any age and have that appreciation accepted,without the woman having to be afraid of where a situation is going. Communication as a one to one thing seems to have of died.

I mean, I''m only in my early 20s, I''m only listening to the same things women like my girlfriend, and her friends, and their sisters, and my sisters, and all the women in my class and in Rez and the ones I met at work, all likely with a median age of 21-24, tell me how grossed out they get from unattractive smelly dudes trying to hit on them in the check out lines, or on the street, or the clearly 40 year old guys trying to stop them while they''re out on the running path or at the gym, lingering around at their work, waiting there until closing to talk to them, stalking them on Facebook, trying to grind on them during their night out at the bar with no invitation - all those women (and some girls) are just wrong. All the women who freely admit they only want to talk to strangers who look like zac efron, not Steve Buscemi. I mean, that''s all you see when you walk around Brandon right? 18 year old women who look like models walking hand in hand with a 35 year old guy who weighs 300 pounds and wears jorts.  
 
You''re right Don, I''m a big ol dummy-no, me and all the women my age are just big old dummies (and the ones sending me private messages thanking me for summing up their feelings from this post) too, since all you guys clearly know their own opinions and preferences better than themselves. When my gf tells me she feels like she''s living in a city of burgeoning Rodney alcalas, she''s just being rude and stuck up

Agree with you Don. You've got some growing up to do Mr. Nonsense and a few horizons expanded. You're just kind of making a fool of yourself. Ya I know, I'm "old and smelly" too or whatever, but perhaps you could try looking past physical appearances and see that there's more to life. Try seeing things from a different perspective for once.  
Women PM'ing you thanking you for summing up their feelings? C'mon man. Come back to reality. No one's going to believe that.

I won't disagree that there are a certain number of men out there that are jerks or at times are just plain creepy, and maybe haven't learned how to treat women properly, but I will disagree that it is the majority. Notice you mention the bar scene, now I'm not saying that just because you are in a bar you deserve to be treated like a piece of meat, but does alcohol or drugs play any part in this behaviour. In my life I have seen women do some pretty wicked things under the influence, and I don't think that it would be fair to judge the female population by what I have seen at those times.  
I don't spend a lot of time in Brandon, and yet when I'm in Brandon I have yet to see any man touch or even make inappropriate comments to a woman,or young lady, maybe I'm just not looking hard enough. I don't spend much time at the beach, but when I talk to people who do never does the topic of inappropriate touching or even very little on vocal comments, and if there was a place to happen one would think it would be at the beach or at a pool.  
Now I don't mean to insult the age group you are talking about, but there is a big difference between a young lady in her early twenties and a woman in her thirties, the women that might laugh at a dumb line, the difference is confidence. It takes time to gain confidence, the kind where you know who you are, and what you don't have to put up with, without being ignorant.  
The nice thing about Sesame Street is that it taught me to learn, oh wait, I'm even before Sesame Street.

Don't all think this way. If someone talk to me I answer to be nice, even if it is a lame joke. Maybe the problem is some people think these women are 6 tiers up to the next human....... To me no one is better than anyone. But then I do t judge by looks only. I wonder what is going to happen to these 6 tier women once they age? Hopefully they have more to offer than looks. Go ahead and tell lame jokes. Not all of us have a pole stick up our keister, some of us may know it's not that you are hitting on us but just a human being friendly

I've proven time and time again that any man trying to be my friend is never actually trying to be my friend. He always has an agenda if he is single. I don't care how old he is.  
 
If he feeds me a lame line or I know by looking at him that there's no way I'll be interested (you have to be even a little bit attracted to him) then I try not to be too friendly. Most of us do not enjoy breaking guys hearts and thus try to keep it simple.  
 
Honestly, most of the great guys to date that are 35-45 move away from Brandon, and for a good reason. The dating scene in Brandon sucks. Many of us have given up on it and are focusing on other goals in our lives.  
 
The fake guys who don't seem to have a real bone in their body, giving us fake charming smiles, and lines that sound rehearsed are definitely not getting the time of day from us who are looking for something real.  
 
If I can't scratch below the surface in the first few minutes of talking to someone, I'm not interested. We are at the age where we are looking for something real, not someone to waste our time.  
 
We go to the gym to work out. Not be stared at and constantly dealing with pickup lines. Enough said.

I'm under the age of 35 and love a good conversation, but at the gym is just weird. People go to the gym to work out. When I'm all sweaty, the last thing I want is some guy trying to tell me jokes. Find a better pick up spot and depending on the joke, maybe its just not funny. Just saying.
