New to Whiteswan Park.
Is everyone's cell service as crappy as mine is?

Internet is one thing, I am getting MTS TV and internet so I will have wifi, but its actual cell service I'm looking to improve. I can't even send recieve a text or a phone call. Literally ZERO service in my mobile.

Is there a booster I could get? one that actually works lol

A little off topic, but I keep hearing other people's phone calls when I am trying to talk to someone. Then my phone call drops.

Seriously, getting rid of this stupid cell phone once my contract is up. I miss being able to sit in my house and make phone calls. I literally have to go outside to get good enough bars for it not to drop.

sucks! They all use the same tower, so it doesn't really matter what provider you have. I live there and it's hit or miss.

Surprising for how developed the North Hill is, but from the map below only one cell company has a tower North of the Assiniboine in Brandon and I don't believe that company has very much market share in town as of now (Telus):

Do you know anybody with Telus? Would be interested to know if they have any better luck with reception in your area (or the Corral Centre which is notoriously bad too). Might light a fire under some of the bigger players if there's a competitor that isn't experiencing the issue and you kindly inform them of that fact (if it was the case) :)

i lived in a mobile in whiteswan up until 6 months ago, metal roof and siding on it, i had no issues with my service at all. Most i know have issues in the corral centre but yet again ive had absolutely no issues with data, calls, or txts. I have fido service and although everyone seems to think they all use the same toweres, unless its changed over the last four years that isnt correct. Rogers owns fido yet they do not use all the same towers, each individual company has to buy the space on the towers they want to have service from. They dont or didnt just use from all. Hense the service area maps differ in certain places for the different companies.

I called MTS and asked to speak to a supervisor about poor Northill cell service and was told by the supervisor that MTS has plans for a new tower but is being held up by the City of Brandon approving the tower.

Having issues with Rogers as well. Called them today and they said they are trying to rectify the issue in Brandon

I've heard the proposed location was at the airport, to finally deal with bad service along #10 as well as North Hill

Imho, cell service in Brandon is generally below average. Most places you barely get 2 bars and often only one. I mean seriously?? In the middle of town and that's all? Maybe one should start cutting the rates down to that percentage. Let's face it, you pay for cell service and get a damn near none existent signal then Mts or whatever provider you're with should cough up a discount.
I went with Mts total Internet and can barely send a text from my workplace. It's absolutely unacceptable. In Winnipeg I've never seen this. But that's Winnipeg again.

This thread is a little over a year old, but felt it was time for a followup with recent developments. Bell MTS has announced an upgrade (see link below) that sounds like it may hopefully address this long-time issue. Would be interested to hear from subscribers who have had the North Hill service problem on what kind of difference they notice:

Not clear on how or if this effects customers of other providers who in many cases share the same towers... maybe someone a little more in-the-know can clarify. Rogers did make the announcement a couple months ago at https://about.rogers.com/cnwposts/rogers-expands-wireless-service-in-winnipeg-manitoba/ that mentions improvements for Brandon North Hill earlier this year

One has to wonder if that new BellMTS "upgrade" is being provided by the Telus tower. Because of tower sharing (after the Bell takeover of MTS) the Telus network is now expanded to BellMTS towers. I know that shortly after the sharing agreement was live, my Koodo (Telus) phone switched to a closer tower and failed SMS messages went down about 90%.

BellMTS is currently building a tower on my building's roof (in Winnipeg), will be interesting to see if my Koodo phone gets full bars at that point.

***As an aside, if someone wants a decent prepaid plan for mostly texting, Koodo is a pretty good deal and I believe boosters (data and voice add-ons that roll over if you keep your base text plan) give double value until Dec 31. My texting plan costs me less than $15/month.***

I live in Glendale and had no service with MTS, switched to TELUS and have no issues. They have a tower on first street right by Value Village.
Same things when I would visit family in that new area behind the old Fountain Tire.

Thanks for the feedback.
Back in the day I used to live in an apartment near Whiteswan and remember things being iffy back then (we're talking 8+ years ago now which is practically a different era). How would you compare cell service with BellMTS before and after Tuesday when the new tower was said to go in effect?

I live a simple life when this is a quality of life booster, but looks like cell data is now very usable within any point within Walmart that I tested (Rogers phone). Screen cap attached of a few speed tests.

Princess Auto coverage: still missing texts until I set foot outdoors... They didnt' take my advice re: installing an in-building repeater years ago. Now that the new tower still isn't even getting through the steel walls, what's a guy to do?

With MTS I used to have the same problem in the apartment building on first street when I was in the building working. Could not send texts or phone someone from inside the building. Would always have to leave the building. Then MTS kicked me off the island and I am now with Telus. I have not experienced any problems with Telus inside that same building when I am there since being switch over.
