Sure this is a scam but did anyone else get this text?

Thank you that's why I said it is likely a scam so if others got it they would be aware.
Guess the thing that bothers me is I just got my phone a couple months ago and wonder how they got my number.

don't have your number per se, it's just a random computer generated number that just happened to be yours. That's what many of these scams and telemarketers use now.

I received a text for a settlement from a 1-437-991-9812. Is there away to set up iPhones so texts only come from your contacts? I don't like that my number is out there...

I got it today as well. So now we're moving on from scam emails, telemarketing calls and now scam texts??

I'm so sorry, that wasn't towards you, it was in reference to a deservedly deleted previous post.
It's pathetic how these scammers have so much access to our numbers, and I feel awful for those that have been duped by them....

my wife has a galaxy 7 on rogers and when ever she gets calls or messages from these scamms it actually shows up as scam alert as the the caller ID

If your number is in the phone book, anyone and everyone has access to your home phone number. But as Trevor said these cell phone numbers are computer generated and just happen to be your number.

The number it came from is very close but a few numbers off lucy43.

Came as a phone call from a 011-(insert ten other numbers here) number. I don't answer calls like that, they usually do not leave messages either. This time I got a message.

The message details read first when I check messages, and it started out with date and time stamp and a phone number with some area code out of the midwest US (so , again, different from the caller ID number).

The message was a computer auto voice saying it was a Rogers text to voice service, and went on to "read" the text received, which told me I was the beneficiary in a last will and testament in the amount of $62, 962, 455. All I had to do was text my number to yet another different number, with another area code in a different US state.

Frightening that they use multiple routers through three different numbers to get to people. And to have such outrageous dollar amount, how can people not be tipped off?

My worry is with this new "text to voice mail" crap they are using, are they finding some way to get around the unlimited texts so that we might start finding charges on our bills? I don't know if that is possible or not.

I received the same text at 11:30 pm last night from +14379919795. It seems these people are determined to try and steal peoples money!

I've also received these scam texts. I have been told that with so many people taking advantage of their tap and pay banking through their phones that these scammers only need you to respond to one text to have access to your phones banking info and thus all your money. This is one app that I will NOT be installing on my phone.

Not that there is anything to be gained from engaging in any way, but would need more information to believe that just replying to a text message with another text message gives this kind of "in." Definitely do not click on any links, definitely don't fill out forms in links that request any kind of personal information at all. This link has more information on that type of scam:

from 403-975-7201 to my 724 number.

I like to play with these scumbags. I sent a response, but not from the link in the text. It is the links in the text or emails that are the path to your data. When I sent a response to t***k@qq.com it bounced back. When I sent it to t***k@gg.com it did not.

Excitedly awaiting my settlement (more play time)I often see these items posted with some of the number or email address deleted. I think it is more of a public service to leave all details in. This is probably the work of someone wanting to con others. Why protect their information ?

Received the same text message yesterday. Contacted Crimestoppers to look into it here and in Alberta. Hopefully no one has fallen victim to these scamming clowns!

Scammers are everywhere - repeatedly getting duplicate friend requests on Facebook from people I am already friends with.

Be careful - if it sounds too good to be true it probably is.

I had the message yesterday Aswell. Thing is though they say settlement but never mention your name. If there is anything like that they would address you directly.
Rule of thumb for everyone to remember, if it sounds to good it probably is and mostly, unless a message from a strange number or address addresses you by name it may be a scam. I have received messages from stuff I use like PayPal. I contacted them and they said any emails they send out would be addressed to me since they have my name. The email from the scam wanted me to go to the site and do something but should never click on links in emails because scammers can make an email and site to look exactly like a real deal.
