Is still hoping Gulliver’s re-opens....we need more family restaurants....there was also a rumour awhile back about the pancake house coming as well but then again maybe there’s hope for the IHOP maybe coming....Brandon was mentioned in a news article about them coming as well.

Almost 1 year to the day that Blu closed, it sounds like plans re Gullivers may have changed. The link below states that Astoria Pizza is to open at this location and might in the future integrate Gullivers menu items. For whatever it’s worth this is the same site that was reporting details, timelines, etc of Gullivers that didn’t come to fruition, though it sounds like plans are for Astoria to start delivery in short order and they already give a phone number for delivery:

They sold coupon books with free entrees a few months back for Gullivers. I wonder if the people who purchased the fundraiser books are just out of luck now?

Adam - you seem to be the man with all the info - so I hope you know. Last year, I purchased some coupons from I think it was crime stoppers (though it may have been different last year). On there, there were some coupons for Gullivers. Any idea if they are going to be honored?

These coupons have always been a great deal in the past, and the inclusion of somewhere that doesn't exist is a bit of a black mark on them. I know they are not to blame, but I hope in the future they won't i:nclude businesses that "promise to be open", but are not.

The people who should be answering these questions are the Trotters themselves.

Wheat City Bar serving "meat and potatoes" never happened at the beginning.

Gullivers reopening...hasn't happened.

Honouring of Blu or Browns gift cards...no explanation

Business 101...don't publicly make statements you don't follow in the end...

As for the Crime Stoppers coupons, ya it sucks there is 1 coupon you can't use. But I hardly think one coupon is going to stop people from buying them. We bought one to support Crime Stoppers in Brandon and to also get a few deals with the coupons. We never use all of them anyway and not being able to use the Gullivers one is no big deal, to us anyway.

The Gulliver's coupon`s were also in coupon books that Wounded Warriors sold. I know a few people who bought the coupon books and aren't happy that Gulliver`s still haven''t opened and probably wont. But what can you do.

But I have noticed that in the last few weeks that there has been activity at the old Blu`s restaurant and as others have said Astoria Pizza is suppose to be opening there.

No, I doubt it would. If it were to be a repeated issue, there would be a problem, and this is a one off. I have been buying them for 3 or 3 years now, and will continue to do so, assuming I can at least break even from the coupons.

There was an article posted last night on Bdnmb.com that Astoria pizza will open at the blu's location and they will introduce some Gullivers menu items. I'm so excited for Astoria coming back!

I disagree. We purchased ours for the food deals, and didn’t get our full value obviously. There were 2 coupons for Gullivers, not just one. We don’t use the photo, golf, museum or tanning ones, so when losing the two food ones it’s not good. We didn’t get value for our money then, as more than half our coupon book will be unused. We will not be purchasing in the future. Just my opinion.

@Cheezies. When we bought these, we were buying them knowing there was a restaurant that was not yet open on them. The people for who it was raising funds is not at fault, as they were assured it would be open well within the timeframe of the coupons (I believe ETA was 2 months from when they were sold). I can understand if you looked at them again, and if there were some like this you would shy away from it (depending, I may as well), but if they were all for established businesses, I would go ahead and buy them again. This last one, I broke even. I planned on using the Gullivers ones, which would have ended up saving me money overall. But considering the delays Gullivers had at the time, I knew it was a bit of a gamble.

Really? Do you think it was the organizations fault this happened? You are punishing an organization that relies on donations and a business doesn't hold up so the charity is punished?

has already been here so it's nothing new. But at least they will have Gullivers menu items. While it may not be the same as the original announcement, it's something at least!! Don't give up just yet!!

Well from what I read in the article Astoria is re-opening and once they get settled they will be reintroducing the Gullivers favorites. So isn't that basically bringing it back except its not actually called Gullivers? From what I remember I only went there for the good food. The layout was awful the booths were horrible. I am glad Toula is bringing it back! I hope she does great. It is local and not another chain restaurant.

I was able to get answers to a few questions today that I hope clarify what some folks were wanting to know.

I was told that though the plan was always to eventually reopen Gullivers at the location the reason Blu was closed when it was were the repairs that were required for the building to be properly operational. I was told the reason for the lengthy closure has been a combination of financing and that repair work that’s having to be done.

As reported elsewhere the plan is for Astoria Pizza to open out of the location in April, initially doing delivery only. Some time in May the plan is to then open the dining room portion of the restaurant. It is still being worked out what the balance will be between Astoria and Gullivers. I came away with the impression it’s still possible the end restaurant is called Gullivers just as it could be Astoria but it sounds like the end product will still be a marriage of the two.

As far as the Wounded Warriors coupons, once the dining room is open they will still be accepted even after expiry. There were two coupons, one for soup and salad bar and one for a steak entree. When the dining room of the new restaurant opens there will be soup and salad which that coupon will be accepted for. The menu is still being worked out but if it turns out there isn’t steak it will be honoured in lieu of another item.

Gift certificates from Blu will also be accepted past their expiry date. Best bet is to email tt@8jag.ca to discuss validity or ask any questions relating to a certificate you might have.

I will pass along whatever other info is available in the future.

Thank-you Adam for providing us with more Info on the plans.
And that’s wonderful to hear they will be honouring all the coupons from the coupon book ( makes my earlier post change for sure). I already turfed all my blu gift cards so can’t use those. We just seemed to get burnt all to quickly between Browns, Blu, Gullivers (even before opening)
Glad to see some things being rectified.

That is why I asked Adam - he seems to have sources for everything! Glad to hear there plans for the coupons as well! Looking forward to what finally opens.
