These younger generations are much more trustworthy. I think because their young they get the shitty end of the deal without even knowing! Everyone gets painted with the same brush and that's it!

As a cab driver for over 8 years in Brandon. I see where the driver is coming from and he was within his rights to kick you out of the cab.  
However this is something I cannot do myself. I don't care if it's 4am in the summer, or winter. I never let anyone walk home at 4am.  
Taxis are a service industry. And if I want that customer to call again. I will accept the phone, debit card, or whatever until you comeback with the money.  
Or sometimes I'll drive the person home and tell them not to worry about going in and getting the money. I just tell them to have a good night.  
I just gave you a free ride home. So next time you'll remember who gave you the free ride and call again. Repeat customer.  
A little friendly service and compassion.  
 
Yes I have gotten screwed over by people just running off. But I'm not going to make a big deal about it. The average fare in Brandon is $10.00.  
If I call BPS, it can take over an hour, especially on a weekend.  
Yes the fine is $300  
But the few times I got BPS involved they charged the customer with a few extras.  
One guy was $3500 in fines  
And another was $900 in fines  
I'm better off just ignoring the situation and going after the next fare. Instead of wasting my time worrying about $10.00.  
The time I spend waiting for the police I could have made $40-50 in fare.  
 
To the op. Next time you call the company tell them right away. When you get in the car say something to the driver.  
If he kicks you out.  
You are calling the wrong cab company.  
Go with a company that focuses on service instead of money.  
And yes those companies exist!!

Treated what way though??? The cab driver did nothing that wasn't in his right.  
 
Whether you agree with the actions of the driver or not, he did nothing WRONG.  
 
I actually wouldn't let anyone walk home at 4am either but I still don't think the cab driver is horrible.  
 
When will people take responsibility for their own actions? How will they learn? If anything, hopefully this driver taught the OP a lesson. Personally, I'd never call a cab if I didn't have money on me and if I did, I'd certainly explain the situation when I first called. I'd be embarrassed to do it any other way....

What if the OP had gone in the house and called BPS saying the cab driver stole her phone, a he said she said situation. As a driver I took a party of 4 this morning to the bank to cash a cheque. The bank wouldn't cash the cheque because of not enough funds in the bank, so I then drove them to another bank and the same thing happened. Next stop drive them back home and the meter is now $30.00 and they want me to come back at 9:30 to take them to another bank when it opens. What choice do I have? At least I may get the $30.00 if the bank cashes the cheque. But tell me why is it the Cab drivers responsibility to eat the fare running someone all over town? We as taxi drivers should not be expected to give free rides, we have expenses to pay as well.

number of parents would rather go to war with whomever, teachers, cabbies, the law, etc. Rather than have them learn from their missteps.

I agree a lesson was learned, however, leaving someone stranded is hardly commendable. It's Manitoba, weather can be harsh with a coat. Regardless, I feel uncomfortable with how it was handled, it should be against the law to leave someone on the road, at night and a young lady at that. Hope this never happens to anybody else out there.

Don't get me wrong I totaly get whats its like to feel wronged and then have everyone on ebradon turn it around on you but really....no jacket because its not in the budget? sounds to me like your friends should have been offering you other things like a jacket or, a ride home.

I think we can all agree she needs to wear/buy/take a warm jacket.  
 
And that a cabbie does work for a living too. Kicking a young lady out at 4 am with a hoodie in cold weather is not a great decision on the taxi guy's part, but maybe he's been taken before from do-gooders.  
 
And the fact that she was heading home at 4 am with a hoodie on a cold night was not the wisest of decisions after having a few drinks.  
 
There is obviously no public transportation at this time of the early morning in a City of this size. It can't run 24-7.  
 
I think Kaylagurl's post may help other people in now knowing what not to do. Dress warm, keep your wallet on you and be prepared before heading out. And don't assume the taxi driver will wait while you run to get your wallet.
