I took a load of e-waste this morning to the Brandon landfill and was stunned when the gate keeper told us to put it in the metal pile .  
This was computer printers and photocopiers with tons of circuit boards in them yet we were told again to put it in the metal waste piles.  
After unloading I walked around to the back of the metal pile and there was an entire pile of electronics pushed into the metal waste pile.  
Is this how the city conducts it's recycling program ?

Perhaps whoever processes and smelts the metal also shreds and extracts the precious and rare earth metals out the ewaste, which is about the only thing of any recyclable value in ewaste.

He was told twice...guessing the guy didn't know or didn't care to know

That the workers would be trained and know exactly why the electronics went in metals and not e-waste. But you're right....the guy just might not have cared.

Metal piles aren't pure metal. At some point it will get crushed and then shredded into small pieces. The plastics and other materials will get sorted out.
