Especially when you are up in age it's very hard to find to find somebody suitable in the Brandon area. Everywhere else it doesn't seem to be quiet that hard.

I believe there is a group that gathers Saturday nights and there is a discussion on here about it.  
Could try volunteering, going to the gym, meet ppl through work friends.  
 
Dating sites and bars are pretty tough. Some ppl have success with dating sites.

Know the struggles, people now a days are to freaking picky and everyone has their own expectation and think they are deserving to get everything on their checklist.  
 
Although nobody wants to spend the time to get to know someone because social media and availability of someone else being so easy to get in touch with makes it really easy to go on to the next, cheat, or talk to ten people at the same time.

totally agree people seem to look for one person for sex while looking for another to date and the dating part is if it happens only been in brandon for almost a year and almost ready to give up on the dating scene here

Agree with Jaclyn, nothing more to add to that.  
 
It's the same for everyone, and it just seems like people are also too "busy," don't know how to socialize properly anymore, or are just users/abusers/players.

Just curious - what do you consider to be "up in age?" 50+?

the city has alot of very nice people. But its like the regular meat market at the bars. And the dating scene? I don't know what that means.  
 
I go through my life, doing what I enjoy. Spending time with friends and family, when not at work. Sometimes I meet a pretty girl. But I don't go throwing myself at them like some of these clowns out there. Or pulling out my wang to show them.  
 
Like, I know its not what people are looking for. But oh well, I will keep being myself.

For some reason everybody 29+ seems to be up in age now a days but , yes, I'm talking 50+.  
And as someone else said, expectations are sky high and unreal.  
Also when it comes to the female gender that age, kids seem to be the only "people" they need and want and want to build their future life around. So, really, why would they make themselves look available if they already have everything they want. 2 cats, a couple of grown kids and so many grandchildren and no intention really to start a new life with someone else.  
If you think I'm making this up......go on a dating site and read the profiles.

If I could find some friends who like to go out and do things for fun, without feeling awkward that I don't need to consume the liquor. That'd also be great!

Monogamy should be expected during dating...it's just respectful in my opinion. I also believe this contributes to the difficulty in maintaining a relationship, as everyone is so quick to move on, to see if there's something better around the corner.  
 
And yes, if other people have unrealistic expectations I can blame them, lol, they are the ones with unrealistic expectations after all. Doesn't mean it's my problem, just a fact either way.

As for check lists...whatever happened to hanging out with a person to see if you'd like them? Would you refuse to befriend someone because they didn't meet those requirements?  
 
And to clarify, these requirements are often superficial ones...example: blond hair, blue eyes, certain height/weight/age, i:nclude certain hobbies, exclude certain hobbies, certain sign, certain skin tone, certain degree of ambition, certain mannerism, certain career, certain colour underwear...the lists are often stupid and endless. So it's not about deserving on the part of either party under consideration. It's about the attitudes and ethics of modern society, and yes, social media, Hollywood, advertising can all be held responsible as these are learned habits.  
 
Just my thoughts at the moment.

Can also be blamed. Not just the models used, but the availability. People being able to satisfy themselves has, to a degree, negated the need for finding a partner.

Modern culture is about the individual now: teaching complete independence vs interdependence. It sort of reflects on attitudes now. As an example, everything for a majority of the current modern males is about sexual gratification. Of course, social class can play into this too. Actually a lot factors can. Nothing is black and white. But I'm entitled to my opinion on the subject, as is everyone else. And currently, at 11:30 at night, this is what comes to mind, lol. So please understand I'm not bashing anyone, or all males for that matter. It's entirely opinion based on first hand experience.

Have been mentioned by others. Like loadedgun said, finding people you don't feel you need to consume alcohol around. That sometimes can be tough. I'm in that same boat that you may not want to always be consuming alcohol to have a good time.  
 
And totally agree, society and the whole dating seen has changed so much to be so tech like which is making people not feel like committing while just dating because it's as easy as a swipe on your phone to find the next option.  
 
It all depends in your interests and maybe timing. I've been single for awhile now, not into the bar scene, I volunteer and go to the gym because I enjoy it not because I'm there specifically to meet someone. So Maybe patience is key and old fashioned dating should make a comeback, that was much simpler lol.

I still say exclusivity and monogamy go hand in hand. Again, just personal opinion. Seems genuinely more respectful to all parties involved in the potential love...pic your shape, lol. But I suppose that's just an old fashioned concept now. Date as many as you can ay once and hope one latches on or is suitable enough to tell the others to not let the door hit them on the ass on the way out. That's the way I look at it anyway.  
 
And it's not absurd blaming another for unrealistic expectations, it's called criticism. If they are free to, say, tell me I'm unsuitable for x reason (criticism), then I can blame them for being stupid and immature and be thankful I dodged a bullet (criticism).
