i am in an unfortunate situation. i signed a 12 month lease from my landlord on a beautiful 3 bedroom apartment that is pet friendly. i have come to realize that the apartment is too expensive for me and i am struggling to stay afloat. i have 2 children and am a single father. i kindly asked my landlord to break the lease as i had only been there 2 months when my employment changed and i can no longer keep up with the rent even though the kids and i love it. they said no... told me i must sublet, has been on the classifieds for over a month and i have had a few viewings and noone has taken it. i am getting very concerned and thinkin i may have to break the lease no matter what, i am told courts can be involved and end up costing more in the long run. does anyone have anyexperience with this? i do not want to go this route but is there any exception? should i contact the rental board?

Due to them having other openings to try and rent chances are they won't be too helpful in finding a sublet for you. What are the chances of putting the kids in one room for the last 10 months and find a roommate to help out till the lease is over. Also is there any rental assist out there to help out?

Fishin guy has a good question on the roommate part maybe kill two birds with one stone if you're kids require a sitter, could pay room and board and help with the kids?? and rent assist is based on your prior years Inc TX return, but there's some he up to about 30,000.00 if you have 2 kids. It lessens the higher the income obviously but some helps better than no help ?

The ink on your lease is barely dry bud. It's unfortunate that it only took a couple weeks for you to find out that it's too much for you to handle. I do like the idea of maybe renting out a room. I assume your kids are young so could easily share a room, no need to spend extra money on 3 bedroom. How many pets do you have?

I wish you luck but if you don't sublet, rent or do something other then just walking away from your lease you are going to end up owing a lot more. It shouldn't be hard to sublet there are always people on here complaining they can't have their pets in a rental etc so I bet you'll have a new person in there by week's end

Can break a lease. Go to the manitoba rental board. They will tell you what you need to do.
