I am the mother of a drug addict. Although my child is the one battling the drug it truly is a family issue, and by extension also a community issue.  
I am looking to start a support group for parents to sort out options and resources, share ideas, educate, vent (not personally accuse or attack others), and just be there to support and listen.  
This is truly a large and debilitating issue in our community and nationwide, and I know that I'm not alone. I also know how hard it is to step out of the shadows and admit we aren't in control.  
I know I could use that in my life.

is a great place. You'll find lots of support and others in your situation. Used to be tuesdays at the united church on Victoria at 18th st at 8pm.

I'll help you know what your kid is going through and let you know what I wish my rents did now that I'm 30 and actually know how difficult life is haha

Al anon is not for everyone. I have explored that option, and it's not the type of support I need. I would like to share resources, options, what has made a difference (both good and bad), and have a group focused on drug addicts: not alcohol.  
 
I know and understand how hard it is to open up.

There's a codependency program at AFM for loved ones of addicts. It helped me loads! I would definitely recommend it.

a place to go with resources would be so helpful, I have struggled with these issues and problems on my own, as well and have often spent the day on the phone, calling every resource I can think of and found that I was being led in a big circle and eventually realized there was really nothing I could do.

Our first meeting will be held June 13th at 7 pm at the Brandon Refit Store at 23-12th St. The Global Market has generously donated us space for this worthy cause!!!

Anyone directly affected by a family members drug addiction!

Thank you to all that attended the first family drug addiction support meeting last night. The response was overwhelming, and the support, resources, advocacy and sharing was much needed.  
I encourage all to attend that feel they need some support with a family members addiction.

We would also like to extend an invitation to a lawyer dealing with legal issues and addiction to come for an evening, and present some much needed and informative discussion.  
Please PM me if there is anyone that would be willing to come out.
