About 12am we noticed a person in the backlane with dark clothing and backpack on the back. Hope everyone's locked up tight tonight.

What is it that makes this suspicious? I hope you reported what they were doing?

Not every person is "bad". Just because they are walking with a "backpack" on doesn't make them suspicious. Ever thought maybe they had a couple drinks and were just walking home? Instead of drinking and driving. It's not that uncommon for people to be WALKING. I love how certain people like you start judging and jumping to conclusions, and assuming the worst in people. If your so worried about them looking "suspicious" maybe you should just confront them next time and tell them your worries instead of complaining on here about it. Smh at some people.

My son got stopped by the cops once for walking at night. It was not in Brandon, he had the hood of his sweater up, backpack over his shoulder, hands in his pockets and apparently looked suspicious walking home from work at 2am. Lol.  
 
Now if the person walking is trying car doors or peaking over fences/in windows- maybe that would classify as suspicious lol

time to lock up all your valuables every night ,there is a very daily occurance of perps searching through your yards every night and taking whatever they can only to discard of it further down the back lane somewhere ...police are aware of these two and request you to call whenever you witness these individuals trespassing on your property.... beware

Yes police were called and made their presence known. And I'm thankful. With all the scum lately sneaking around checking cars and whatnot in the wee hours of the morning....last thing on my mind was offending someone. I'll do it again...and again to save my Neighbors the from possibly being a target.  
Once at 10pm i was sitting outside and saw a ratger suspisous individual pushing a shopping cart. And yes it was my personal opinion he didn't look quite right. But I ignored it because of reasons stated above....maybe he was homeless...not everyone pushing a shopping cart at 10pm is suspisous. 1/2 hour later I was approached by an officer on foot asking if I saw said man. I said yes...and he asked why I didn't call it in. Turns out the man was shopping from my neighbour's garage!!!  
So lesson learnt.

My neighbours have been broke into several times this year! At one point the criminals were spooked and left their bolt cutter behind. Better safe than sorry...if someone is offended if the cops roll up on them and ask a few questions...then maybe their hands aren't so clean. I would like to live in a safe neighbor hood. Thanks to all who are looking out for one another

Yup....i don't have a death wish....im not that stupid....sounds like a great outcome approaching an individual in the backlane in the middle of the night!!! And people like me as you put it....(passing your own judgement...lol) become victims when the situation turns out right.  
Your free to handle the situation anyway you wish....i wouldn't judge u....you did what you had to do...or not do...whatever. lol

That's ridiculous, I wonder around in black pants and black shirts at 11pm too. I'm not doing it to "look like a criminal" I'm doing it because black attire is the dress code at my job. I too often i:nclude hoodies or jackets if it's cooler outside. I've even entered my property from the rear before.  
I'd go as far as to say that this kind of paranoia over "people in dark clothes walking around at night" takes police away from actually stopping real suspicious activity.

No offence here. But my thinking to is the police have more important things to do than to check on people walking down a back lane at night dressed in dark clothes. You do not need to approach this person but you can watch them from afar to see if they are just walking or actually steeling things.

Someone stole my sons bike out of our backyard last night and left a different bike in our yard so if anyone is missing a supercycle XTI 21 we have it

I wish my neighbours were more like you but they hide behind their fences oblivious to today's reality and then are shocked when something goes missing from their yards.  
 
I walk my dog late at night quite often, and sometimes walk the alleys, in summer because it is cooler out. I have no issue with cops stopping me to ask questions. If you have nothing to hide, you hide nothing.  
 
I get a little spooked from the other "walkers" without dogs out late though.  
 
Always baffled why people think it's a good idea to approach someone walking a grumpy large dog is beyond me. haha
