CRA phone call crank?

So I had two messages on my home phone today, purportedly from CRA. I was instructed to call them back immediately. This smells like a scam to me. Any thoughts?

Did they reveal much in the message?

Anything along the lines of owing money and they would send authorities after you? I've seen a few people on Facebook today mention receiving these scam type phone calls.

my favourite scam call is when they ask for 'someone with 'such and such' initial and my last name and when I ask the first name they can't tell me, then they usually hang up, lol

If it''s not a registered letter, the contact, be it phone call, email or whatever, is most likely NOT the CRA.
Yes, they will mail regular letters, but if they REALLY want to contact you about past due or audits, etc, it will be by registered letter.

My wife got one of these as well. Same as other mentioned, pay, or police will arrest you, etc. One this the scammers screwed up on for her. There is not such thing as CRS (Canada Revenue Service) as they called themselves. From the sound of you message, they corrected that part of there scam. Too bad. Also, they called from Florida.

I had that once and they said they were going to have me arrested. I then told them I really didn't want that (I knew it was a scam) and that I'd love to clear this up now with my CC. He sounded so excited! He asked for my CC #. So I started giving it to him...F. *. *. K. O. ....well you get the gist....he hung up! Lol. I enjoy messing with them.
