work experience

It might be harder here because it''s higher-end jobs especially in the federal service. I started at the Winnipeg Tax Centre with only retail and restaurant experience as a CR-4 clerk because the main experience requirement was client service, problem solving, etc... things I had from working retail. I very quickly moved up once I got in and proved my worth, plus the fact that I am bilingual was a bonus. But there''s been lots of attrition and cutting lately, so it might be harder to get in these days.
edit: I just wanted to add that I have the opposite problem - I don't have a univeristy degree but I have done a lot of the jobs that they advertise. But I get screened out because I don't fit the educational criteria, even though it's basically the same work I did for 10 years.
