I was driving North on 18th from the Mall, and hit every single red all the way to Kirkcaldy, then turned East and hit the red at Conservation Drive. What is up with that? I don't have an issue on how long it takes me to drive that distance, but to get every red is absurd.

And they also need to increase the length of time of the turning signal at 1st street turning onto Victoria. It is awful in the morning rush.

If you hit every light than chances are it is Synchronize... Just in the opposite direction you were traveling.  
I believe It is impossible to synchronize for both directions, so the best you can do is pick the side with most flow. Synchronize that way and maybe change the direction at different times of day depending on flow patterns

You only get a couple of seconds to turn and of course there is always that a-hole or 2 that has to go through the red light which leaves the 1 car getting the green turning light has now changed to the yellow turning light....so yup 1 car gets to turn on that turning light. The city either needs to change the timing of the light or put in cameras at those busy intersections and start fining people that are running the red lights!!!

The red light runners don't affect me too much. I would have to floor it the millisecond that my light turns green to have any chance of colliding with them.  
 
Lights can be synchronized for both directions, Winnipeg does this downtown along Portage Ave. The lights all turn green at the same time, so traffic in both directions can get through a good chunk of it before hitting another red.

I can get from Giant Tiger, going east until 6th street with all green lights.

Most of the traffic lights in Brandon would be the responsibility of MIT. MIT in Brandon does as little work as possible and could care less of traffic light timing, whether it is efficient or not.

Is the light at 20th and Richmond! You cannot make it through 18th or vice versa. It also stops traffic in both directions on Richmond and nobody is on 20th. I know they put those cables underground as a trigger for cars waiting to get onto Richmond bit apparently that's not working.

I for one cannot understand why there isn't a turning light southbound at Canadinns at Brandon Ave, this to me is a very busy intersection, it does seem to have a very long turning lane, but with the traffic you might get one to two cars through.

If one goes 40km per hour on Princess Ave, you can probably get all green lights from 6th st to 18th st atleast in my experiences. Having said that, they can get away with just having flashing red and orange lights in the evenings and on Sunday on both Rosser Ave and Princess Ave. I would like to see the traffic lights decommission at Princess Ave and 8th st. There's no real need for the lights there since The Town Centre is all but a paid parking lot.  
 
If one is going to beef about the traffic lights on 18th st and Victoria, go after the provincial government on that, not the city.

I agree with you 100% about 20th and Richmond. It makes absolutely no sense to stop all the traffic on Richmond. There's hardly any vehicles turning west from 20th onto Richmond. This is the worst one in the city.  
 
The other one which would be provincial is the bypass south of Brandon. It is a trigger light but very quickly as a vehicle comes up to the intersection on the bypass the light turns green to allow that one vehicle to turn left and stopping the 30 other vehicles. I would think it would be acceptable for there be a delay of a minute or two before changing.

Hitting all the red lights gets old real fast. All of Richmond gets me every time!  
 
Intersections that need turning arrows annoy me too...1st and Richmond, 18th and whatever street A@W is  
 
Yes, life could be worse but my road rage likes to appear every now and then.....

If you start with a fresh green at 34th going east on Vic and drive about 55-60kph you can catch greens all the way past 1st. This is only possible when there is little traffic like 6:30 am.

I get a kick out of all the blind corners due to trees, parked cars etc.... I think the traffic engineer in Brandon is the gum dispenser in the lunch room

A real bad spot is 34th and McDavid is bad for the trees. You have to stop in the path of the walking path to see safely.

I see the red light issue in a few Canadian cities across western Canada. It definitely drives me up the wall and made me an inpatient driver, even found a few times that if you don't hurry to the red light it stays red until the next time that intersection switches back to your direction.  
 
That being said, where i find it funny is that the federal government is making emission mandates, trying to impose a carbon tax, and ultimately lean the country off of fossil fuels in favor of more eco-friendly alternatives. While, more than just Brandon, have lights that favor stop and go driving that promotes accelerating, breaking, and idling, the biggest wastes of fuel, or energy would be a better word for it, whether its fossil fuels, electricity, or what ever else powers the vehicles we all drive.  
 
So where I find it funny, the place where our world seems to be going to in the future, our cities seem to be wasting resources in many ways...

Must be the only one in Brandon who can do this cause all three sets of lights at superstore are opposite each other

That light on Richmond and 20th will turn red on a regular basis even when there is no cars or pedestrians waiting to cross Richmond. It's annoying and pointless.  
 
Also the one in front of the mall on 18th and Burger King (don't know the name of that intersection). It also has a pointless red light much of the time. If you're heading north and catch that red, you get to watch the green light at Richmond and know you're going to miss it because you're stuck waiting for no cars on that red light. Makes no sense.

I always thought those lights were based on pedestrians setting it off to cross Victoria avenue.
