Anyone know what happened? The light post headed east looks smashed and there's a couple of trees down with some skid marks. Police chase? Drunk driver? I gotta n own lol!

Yeah, I saw that 30 minutes ago. I thought I was seeing things.

I hope this bozo is required to pay, out of his own pocket, for the damage to the light standard and to replace the trees.  
 
Impaired Driving/Motor Vehicle Collision with Fixed o:bjects  
 
At 12:28 AM, Police responded to a report of a single vehicle vs. fixed o:bject collision in the 3300 blk of Victoria Ave. Investigation determined that the vehicle had entered Victoria Ave. from a parking lot in the area and made a U-turn at the intersection of Victoria Ave. and Clark Dr. to travel west when it jumped the curb and struck a tree. The vehicle continued west bound and went over the median colliding with a second tree before hitting a light standard on the South side of Victoria Ave. The operator of the vehicle was arrested and brought to BPS where he provided samples of his breath that were found to be in excess of the legal limit. The 20-year-old Brandon man was later released on a Promise to Appear in Brandon Court on June 26, charged with Impaired Driving and Drive Over .08.

Glad it wasnt another car or person

They should definitely send the guy the bill for the street light repair and the replacement of the two trees. He lucky that''s the only things he hit and he didn't kill anyone.

If buddy has insurance on his car, assuming they are from MB, MPI will get the bill and they will have to pay their deductible.

At 20, he was undoubtedly out with friends and made bad decisions. He doesnt deserve anyones pity...is it possible that he has an illness? Sure but what evidence is there for that? Experience and history tells us that 20 year old drunk drivers are just that...drubk and driving. I hope he feels the full measure of the law.  
 
Luckily he didn't kill anyone....the poor thing

He very easily could have killed somebody. I'd like to see the harshest punishment available for this crime.

Forget that we are all perfect,and have never done anything that deserved having the proverbial book thrown at us. All the angels cut this person some slack, did he screw up yes, did someone die? Thank goodness no, is he facing the consequences for his actions yup, I guess we should all band together and have a public hanging with all the perfect people that have never done anything wrong show up to it. Won't be a full seat in the house.

sure do , impaired driver lost control and smoked the light pole after taking out two trees and crossing the meridian between the lanes on victoria ...sadly was the first on scene and hope to god i never have to see another one again.thankful the kid was ok

He's okay because he was drunk. He will likely get nothing a slap on the wrist and don't do it again. Wondering if he came from the bar or maybe a house party. They should also be held responsible. I don't think he had a gun to his head. Poor baby. If your going to run with the big dogs don't be stopping to piss like a pup.

Sorry, I don't agree with this line of thinking at all. Trying to blame someone else for an individual's choices. There are many people that can go out and enjoy a drink (or many, many drinks) at a party, restaurant, lounge, bar, sporting event, social, etc) without then getting behind the wheel and putting their own lives and the lives of others at risk. One person (or business) shouldn't be forced to be held accountable for another's stupidity. If that is the case, then I would pose the argument that it is the government's fault for making the alcohol available in the first place. Drinking responsibly doesn't have to mean not drinking enough to fail a breathalyzer, it means not getting behind the wheel at all when you've had enough. Be accountable for your own actions!

I am thinking it might be the person that made a decision.

TryThisName was not saying it was the government's fault. Was saying that if your going to blame the establishment, or home owner, you may as well blame the government. Was fully stating that the person who chose to drink and drive should be responsible.

But in cases of DUI, I thought MPI did not cover. In other words, the driver if convicted would be responsible for all costs and damages.

Kerry is not 100% at fault - you will not have coverage for your own vehicle but you do have coverage for anything you damage ie. another car, building, pole etc

Correction

MPIC will only cover if he hit another driver. Damages to city property due to impaired driving the driver is on the hook for...I know someone years ago who took out a light standard and MPIC did not pay for it.....has this changed??

thats what happens when you accelorate your vehicle at high speeds head on into non moving o:bjects..so glad you took the time to stop and take pictures of an accident scene, did you also see if the two of us who witnessed it all and assisted needed help,if the young man was ok? likely not im guessing..as for your speculations on what or where he had been, your efforts would like most posters on here be to ask if the person actually was ok not assuming you knew anything more then the truck hit a pole ...jmo

actually mpi will not cover it at all anymore even if you hit another vehicle.(personal experience) As soon as you are convicted of a DUI you have no coverage, not even third party liability. what they do is they pay for the other vehicle or damage and then it goes to a department called special accounts and subrogation and then they send you a bill. you then have to contact them to set up a payment plan which after one year they begin charging interest on. The same as if your animal gets hit and causes damage to the vehicle that hits them you may receive a bill if you claim the animal as far as I know.

I think this driver should have been held in custody until his court appearance.

would they keep them in custody for a dui..there was no fatalities or persons injured, i dont understand your thinking on this
