Recently have moved back to Brandon after being abroad for several years. I couldn't help noticing the lack of maintenance at the Discovery Centre. The trails are and pavement paths are poorly maintained. Long grass that is usually cut is long and ugly, beautiful benches that have been donated by people who have passed away where visitors can sit and rest has long grass all around. What happened here? There used to be an area cut around these sitting areas...  
 
Flower, tree and shrub areas are full of weeds, grass and thistles. Signs identifying different trees and shrubs on the west paved trail are barely noticeable due to the overgrowth..  
 
This place could be so beautiful... and I hope that the new plans for development can start with a major cleanup and beautification first..  
Oh and I couldn't walk to the bridge due to a huge low lying mud puddle...  
 
I was so embarrassed with my out of country guest...  
 
At least the building interactive area is still quite nice

Well it has flooded multiple times in the last several years and will probably flood again multiple times in the next several years. It's a lost cause, the floods destroy the place every time.

Agreeing with the multiple floods as to the condition it's in now.  
 
The city has done lots of work building up the dikes last year and this year. It's definitely a work in progress. Give it a few years and it will back to how you used to remember it.  
 
Trust me when I say, it looks better than it did even last year.  
 
Kudos to the city it all its hard work keeping us all dry and working hard on the green space along the river.

perhaps your wisdom could be used if you chose to volunteer to help them repair the damage from several floods , possibly even get on the board , much better than complaining about the efforts of those who are making the effort to improve the riverbank.

In the park along Veteran's Way, near the RCMP offices. It is too bad that it hasn't been maintained since the floods too.

They're still choosing to spend 30 million of our tax payers dollars on the amphitheater project and have publicly acknowledged about it being a flood plan and what the challenges are. I take some relief in knowing that what they're building is going to hold up against flooding (eye roll) why just not choose a different area to move forward with that plan!?

the pathway to the walking bridge is under water every year that floods, that hasn't been addressed or cleaned in years, there is a light standard that is to the point of falling over, there is mud everywhere. They are spending 30 million dollars on the most stupid idea in years, if they expect people to walk over from the south end and enjoy it, they better clean up that area. Its a real shame that whole area wasn't left as it was meant to be, a nature discovery centre.

You do realize that they are taking flooding into account with the new design? The new amphitheater is located on the dry side of the dike. Did you attend or make your feelings known during the planning phase? It was open to the public.

Isn't it sad that actually makes the news. And someone is feeling smarter thinking that they came up with that idea.

I don't think so when the dike is to the north of the amphitheatre.....
