It''s a good thing you were watching your 2 year old kid though so it didn''t get hit, right?  
In the dark, with vehicles around, with loud noises (fireworks), and a lot of strange people around, I wouldn''t let my 2 year old so far out of my sight she could get struck by a truck. Kids are ultimately your responsbility to keep safe.

It sounds like the guy drove across a green and fairway of a golf course.  
Yes you need to watch your own kids, but I don't think you need to blast the OP about not watching her kids in what should have been a very safe place!

I think 5ft is a safe distance. I often shake my head at the people who have very young children out at that time of night watching loud fire works. I'm sure you were responsible tho and had ear defenders on your childs ears.  
 
Sounds like the guy in the truck was being responsible putting his beacon on so people could see him in the dark.  
 
Hopefully your 2yr old isnt too tired from being up past 11pm last night.

Since when is it o.k. for anyone to be driving a truck or any vehicle other than a golf cart on the fairway of a golf course?  
Don't know how this got so turned around to defend the idiot.  
I guess it's a parent's choice to decide to allow their kids to stay up to see the fireworks (maybe had a nap before.  
What I really get fired up about are morons who take their dogs, then dogs get freaked and run away. 2 this year at Minnedosa.

TO the OP, I hope someone got a plate number or comes forward. FYI, that flashing amber isnt on a persons vehicle so that they may go wherever they want to, its to be used for either emergencies or while working and Im pretty sure that wasnt the case here. Clear case of " the rules dont apply to me"

Wish I had gotten a plate, because the truck also cut across the green when leaving, according to my wife. He likely damaged the green, and I''m sure the course owners would be happy to know who he was.  
 
As for my daughter, I was only a few feet away, packing up our chairs and blankets. I saw the moron coming, and pulled her back. That said, there were other kids playing on the grass before and after the fireworks, and we were ON A GOLF COURSE FAIRWAY. There was no reason to hold her hand at the time, because we weren''t anywhere near where any traffic should have been. The road was at least 50 ft behind us, and the closest parked cars were still probably 20, with us between them and her.  
 
And for the armchair parents, she went to bed at 8 and we woke her up for the show. She was back in bed by 11:45 and loved every minute of it.

If the fairway was damaged as a result of the guy driving his truck across it, the driver can be charged with mischief.

Why would anyone let their kids watch fireworks. LOL  
That's almost as funny as defending a guy that beats traffic by driving across a golf course.

Why wouldn't you? She absolutely loved them, and it's not like she has to go to school the next day. A late night once and a while doesn't do any harm.

a 2 year old child is way too young to be left few seconds alone especially in heavy public and dark evening so parents need to watch them it is not up to the neighbors, friends, not the public surrounding to watch for your kids but saying that I am defending the driver's behavior just saying it is parent's responsibility. If public is too heavy parents have a choice to stay home or have someone babysit them. Parents bring kids to this world and sometimes parents may have to miss some events that may not be so kids friendly or kids safety.

My child was not alone or unsupervised, she was 5 feet away from me, my wife and my father.

Well then if you were so close to your kid where it was safe and couldn't get harmed, then the truck's distance from your kid is a non issue.

Why are there so many ass backward people posting on this site all the time. Heaven forbid any of you who think OP is at fault here ever have an influence or power in this city or the world. Hope none of you are therapists, that''s no way to talk to people online or not! If dude in the white truck runs over your kid or dog or foot don''''t come crying or we can assume your at fault for sure.....is the mentality that would coincide with the accusatory opinions of the OP.

This site gets so tiring. I was so disappointed to see this convo in here still with so much negative against someone who was almost a victim of something tragic, and preventable I would like to add. And maybe only prevented because OP was a GOOD PARENT!!!!

I once got hit by a car backing up from a busy function in broad daylight. I am a big guy so not something that is easily missed. There are people that just get in their vehicle and drive without looking! Omg people! And not taking a child to the fireworks? Are you kidding me! Lol.

Yeah and apparently people don't have the responsibility to drive their vehicle safely and appropriately according to you.

having a vehicles pass by with in 5 ft of you on in on a controlled roadway, intersection, crosswalk may be just fine.  
 
5 ft away in an uncontrolled area, where the truck is not supposed to be in the first place, at night, is definitely not OK.  
 
too bad the cops didnt catch him, mischief until you lodge a complaint then it might be dangerous driving.

I don't understand the people who comment on this website, it somehow always gets twisted to be the OP's fault no matter the discussion. I guess people are just allowed to do whatever they want because 2 year old's shouldn't be out at night. Shake my head....
