Actually, the proper temperature is between 0-4 degrees Celsius. 7 degrees is way too high. This is the actual measured temperature, not the setting on your fridge. You can buy fridge thermometers at Walmart and it has this area marked in pink. Higher is marked in red, too low is in blue. I added a picture.
Keeping it on the bottom shelf makes sense too, as it should be the coldest place.
We periodically look at the thermometers in the fridge section if we are buying any dairy. There are usually a few of them in each fridge. If the temperature is above this, of course, the product won't be optimal and the product will already be changing for the worse. It is best to bring this to the store's attention so that they can correct it.
I remember hearing on a show long ago that the products further back most likely won't just have the furthest away BBD, but will also be less exposed to warmer air and also light (fluorescent is the worst) which is also not good for the milk.
We milk a cow, so don't bother with plastic jugs. We use gallon jars. I am curious if you transferred the milk to a glass jar, if that might help?
I found in the past, that sometimes the rim of the plastic jars held milk on it which went bad as well. It might not hurt to wipe the rim with a paper towel to wipe that off? Just a thought.
