Anyone planning to attend Ribfest this weekend at the discovery center?! Has anyone seen what the prices will look like by chance?!

I am very excited for this event. I was lucky enough to attend a large one in Ottawa some time ago and it was great. I hope it is well attended so that the organizers and participants consider doing this again. Thanks go out to the Rotary Club for bring this in.

Hopefully I will go with my family !

I would hope as many people that appreciate a special event like this one and the Upcoming Food Truck event will turn out . Those that are worrying about prices all the time it might be time to get off your wallet and treat yourself instead of looking for the cheap deals. McDonald's has cheap meat go there if you can't afford this. These guys stay up for up to 14 hours smoking this unbelievable tasting meat so if they charge$15 to $25 bucks a plate so what enjoy it and the atmosphere. It's not like your eating this every day. Brandon is fortunate that people can bring this into the city.

Just wondering how this event works? I've never been to one before. I understand it's a contest between 3 BBQ'ers. Is there actual judges? or do we sample each dish and then the crowd decides who wins? Not much info on what actually happens.

I was just there an hour ago. Food is off the charts fantastic! For those who are counting their pennies you can get a smoked Polish sausage for nine dollars . But the real meat that shines through and shows these guys talents is the brisket and ribs . Just go down and check it out for yourself it's free to go . Got a huge beer tent set up with a stage right next to it. Take advantage of this Brandon and enjoy the day down there.

Does that i:nclude sides or just meat?  
It's not about being cheap. Not everyone wants too, or can eat $15-$25 worth of meat alone.

Just ate ribs from Silver Bullet. Had 1/2 rack for $15. EXCELLENT  
 
Beer garden next door. Band setting up. Not the usual fare for Brandon. I'll be back tomorrow to try another member of the Rib Fest.

Like I said numerous times just drive down there doesn't cost you a thing to go and look you don't have to buy anything turn around and go home if you don't like it . Stay home and eat some more meat and potatoes .

Does that i:nclude sides or is it just a huge amount of meat.  
It’s a good question in my books.  
Maybe somebody that has attended would be able to answer it for us.

I don't have to re read her question. You want me to do all the leg work for you. Go down there yourself and make a decision for yourself. There are lots of people down there and I never heard anyone complaining only complementing how good the food was. So I will spell it out for you what I had. Half rack of ribs with a side of smoked beans $15. It would cost you just as much ore more at any Brandon restaurant. The only thing missing would be the taste! Good Grief!

Maybe you should have ordered a snickers bar while you were down there. I didn't realize a simple question from someone that hasn't been down there yet would ruin your mood so easy. Chill out.

For everyone else wondering (since money doesn't grow on trees for a normal person) I just came from Ribfest a bit ago. $15.00 got you a half rack of ribs and your choice of side (cole slaw and beans or mac n cheese) portions were pretty awesome. 1/4 chicken was $8.00, 1/2 chicken was $14.00. Hope this helps out with some of the cost questions! Happy weekend all!

I enjoyed the food from Crabby''s, but and this is a big but in my books!  
 
Crabby''s has special Brandon only pricing, the website https://www.crabbysbbqshack.com/menu appears to be the 2017 tour pricing guide for the rest of Canada.  
 
Sadly, when compared to the online tour menu, Brandon people have the unfortunate honour of paying 1 to 3 dollars extra per item more than the rest of Canada!

I think asking prices is not an unreasonable question. I was curious myself as to how much cash I should take out and bring. I don't like using portable bank machine and wasting money on fees. No where did I see anyone looking for deals, nor mcdonalds prices. But thanks to the folks that have been and shared some info.

This is a Rotary Sponsored Event. The Rotary Club donates nice gifts to important community projects.  
 
The event is free for all families and any and all people that would enjoy the sunshine. Kids will have a ball even if you don't eat anything (kind of like the Provincial Fair once inside the gate).  
 
If you walk in and you can eat at the food vendors, go ahead. If not, that is fine as well. There is enough online to know what the cost should be. I think there may be French fry vendors on site as well?

Yes, they do have an online menu showing what they charge in other parts of this tour. Unfortunately, Crabby’s has decided to charge the good people of Brandon several dollars extra per item.  
 
And that’s why people ask about pricing.

What would you pay at the Keg or Blu or Browns? Thought I saw a sign at the Vic Inn all summer saying come try our ribs the price was $24.95 or something like it . So the prices at ribfest are basically the same only way better smoked meat . I am going again tomorrow and will take my parents Sunday. Enjoy whatever you decide to do.

We went last night, also to Crabby's. I got the Rib and Pulled pork Dinner which comes with slaw and beans for $21. Added corn bread for $3 more. The food was fantastic and the portions were generous. Wifey sampled mine and it was still plenty. Some around us who got the whole rack took half home, they couldn't eat it all.  
 
Beers are $6 each, also reasonable. Other Farmery products also available.  
 
The Batchery ice cream truck was also there.  
 
Go and check it out, highly recommended!

I didn't see that Crabby's prices were any different than any of the other two vendors. They are all the same. I compared. Portions are about the same too (we bought from 2 places so we could compare food).  
 
Now, weren't we supposed to vote for our favorites somewhere? Can someone tell me if & how? I didn't see anything like that.

Since this seems to be a super hot topic, hopefully I can help a little.  
 
We ate at Crabbys last night and from what I remember, it was $24 for a full rack of ribs, $17 for a half rack and $9 for 1/3 a rack. They also had pulled pork and BBQ Brisket either 1 lb for $15 (90% sure that was it) or on a bun for $12. You could add Coleslaw & Beans to make it a dinner for $4. Maple Cornbread you could add for $3 and the last item I remember was the Smoked Italian Sausage on a bun for $8. There were also rib/chicken or just 1/4 chicken combos that I don't 100% remember but I believe they were also around the $15 - $18 price point.  
 
We were right next to the Texas BBQ vendor as well and they had their Full and Half rack of rib prices posted where I could see. They were about the same, I believe a dollar difference from Crabbys. They also had like a huge Texas Dinner you could get for $45 that had chicken and ribs and a couple other things.  
 
You could buy Bottles of Water for $1 right around the lines for the food and they had the Batchery there as well so save money for ice cream if you can  
 
Beer I'm not 100% sure of, the beer tent was super full (I heard they are adding more tables today) and we just went and ate on a park bench.  
 
The food was AMAZING. We all shared some ribs and I had the Grilled Italian Sausage with Beans and Coleslaw and the cornbread. Man... that cornbread. Drool.
